Lock computer's connection to one router Is there any way to lock a computer to connect to only one specific router? Or prevent users from trying to connect to other routers? |
not sure why you will have multiple routers. but you can.. change the gateway of the router of where the PC you are connected to something different from the other router (s) so it will be on its individual network. while making sure not have the other router(s) plugged like a switch . and changing default passwords of routers will not allow them to connect to the actual router. |
I'm just trying to limit my younger sibling's internet usage. I set up the router to only grant her access to internet during certain periods of the day, but she goes and finds an unprotected network, so she can connect to that router and use the internet. Sneaky little brat. I can't monitor her all the time, so I'm trying to find a way to lock the computer from doing being able to do that. |
assign static IP and gateway addresses on your PC (for both wireless and wired connections), and change her profile to user-only so she can't change these settings back. |
^^ what he said. and disable DHCP. that way the wireless won't be able to even get an ip from another router. |
Nice! I'll definitely try this tonight or tomorrow, and will probably come back with questions (I'm a total noob at networking stuff) Thanks guys edit: is there any drawbacks or side effect from this? ie. slower internet connection, problems with sharing files over home network, harder to manage |

if your using windows, you can also edit the windows hosts file to block websites. just google for the list of common NSFW sites and cut and paste etc. quite easy and great if you don;t know about it(common users that is) blocks the site directly from the browsers. use it all the time when the gf pisses me off and i block facebook LOL i can hear her reconnecting and connecting to different networks and for some odd reason i feel good.
