Had this Audi A3 in for a single stage polish and finished with two layers of Menz Powerlock. Enjoy.

Nice, been waiting for you to do a review on powerlock. How did you apply it? Let us know how durability goes.

I applied the first of two coats by hand. It feels thick and like the applicator is dragging a bit. The second coat was applied via pc and LC gold pad on speed 3 and it was effortless to apply a thin, even coat. Either way, it came off extremely easy. Sorry, but I have no ideas regarding durability but I have a friend who had one coat on his car for two months before he removed it and said it was still holding up strong.

I bought power lock awhile ago, but didnt' have the chance to use it yet. I will find a dark car for a 1-step polish, then apply power lock and show you guys later

hey Ken, do you think I should apply a layer of 845 over power lock?

Shouldn't be a problem. Post pics. I'm not fond of Powerlock on dark colours as I find it brightens them up. I think its better for lighter colours myself.

For my white car, I still like DG501/601/105 combo. but I hate light colour car, I tend to over use products because I can't see what i am doing.

The paint on that Audi looks super slick!!

Do you have to wait between applying coats or can you just apply one directly after the other?

With most sealants, the theory is you should wait at least 8 hours between coats but I've always layered them back to back with no issues. If its your own car, I'd apply one coat in the early evening and remove and then apply the second coat the next am.

hey Ken, what did you use to clean the chrome exhaust tip?

MarkyMark 06-21-2010 04:23 PM

What would you say looks best on dark metallic colours like this, powerlock or collinite?

Usually P21S Polishing Soap to remove the crud and build up and then Optimum Metal Polish to brighten it up and seal it with Blackfire All Metal Sealant.

Since I posted this I have done another 5 or 6 cars with Powerlock and am quite fond of it. I found that after a couple days on dark solids the depth increases significantly and looks fantastic. At this point, I'd say Powerlock looks better but the durability is still a question mark although a detailer I know has gotten 3 months out of a coat before he removed it.
