Hit an animal don't know if i'm posting this in the right thread but just wondering what happens if while driving you hit an animal like a cat or a dog. Are you supposed file a report or anything? Could you be charged? Friend recently hit a cat while driving and wants to know |

no. and the owner can't do anything about it. however if you hit something ICBC will make it your fault... so you don't hit animals. they jump out and hit you.... |

Completely hypothetical, but if hitting a dog cause damage to your car, could you go after the owner for reimbursement? |
in a way yes. if a farmer has a cow and he did not have a gate and the cow are free running and cause an issue, he would be held responsible to an extend. How and to what degree is another story. |

hitting animals is not a collision claim, its a comprehensive claim. ICBC will only screw you if you cant prove that you actually hit an animal. i have heard of people bringing dead deer into claim centers up north to show that they actually hit a deer and not a wall or a pole, so that ICBC pays the claim as comprehensive and their insurance is not affected. if you ever hit an animal and your car is damaged, always take pictures |
