Riveting tale, Chap.

How did you get that? Apple wouldn't even tell me any information when I called them until I told them the serial number or w/e to make sure it was still under warranty.

Tim Budong 05-16-2010 03:25 PM

just took it in and had them tell me what is wrong, and then this is what came back..the screen works again, and its a new logic board...so its almost like i have a "new" mac

In other words, it's an unpublicized recall.

Just doing a quick Google search for "Apple Recall," it finds recalls on batteries, graphics cards, and logic boards on the first page including a recall on logic boards for Macbook Pros produced in the first quarter of 2006 (which I'm guessing is what yours is).

In other words, Apple sold you a defective product, failed to contact you about it, and because they replaced an acknowledged faulty part, they're "awesome" ... ?

No, if they were truly awesome, they would have told you about this about 3.5 years ago when they found out. Instead, they didn't contact you at all in hopes that, once your logic board died, you'd buy a new Mac and give them more money.

Apple wouldn't even replace my battery under warranty that died after 15 cycles (recharges) and flagged the serial number on my laptop, so when I sent it in through work, it got denied again. I had to wait until it was into Staples' extended warranty before I could get it replaced.

Apple has also heavily screwed me and my GF over on her iMac (in for warranty repairs 6 times in 2 years, still refuses to replace it) and her iPod Touch (stopped working after 3 months, wouldn't turn on, refused to fix or replace it. I was able to get it replaced at work, fortunately.)

Apple can eat my ass.

LOL APPLE FAIL!
If they announced a recall on their macbooks that would hurt their sales like CRAZY

Let me guess, nVidia GeForce 8xxx series video card right?

If so, it's a recall which almost every laptop manufacturer actually recalled. I know for a fact that HP and Dell recalled laptops that had that video card. Guess Apple chose to bury it under the rug.

Iceman_2K 05-17-2010 05:18 PM

And how is any other company different. I had the same thing that happened to you with an HP and a Compaq laptop, a Sony mp3 player and a logitech gaming mouse - Apple isn't the only one doing this. And if it is the nvidia graphics card, which I'm sure it is, Dell's entire D620-D640 line of business laptops was affected. My work laptop had to be replaced twice for that video card fiasco.

There's no such thing as a D640. :) I thought quadro's weren't affected.

Iceman_2K 05-18-2010 07:48 PM

Quadro's were. We had like 6 go back. Not to mention batteries (we're talking the spares that sat in the cdr/dvdr drive bay) that died in a matter of just months with normal use. And you're right, there is no D640, my bad.

The E series that we're using now seem to be a bit better, but i'm not holding my breath.
