Help tuning sub-box Hey all, I have a Kicker 750.1 mono amp and two alpine type-r 10's 2+2 For years I have just thrown subs into boxes and boomed away, but I would like to finally fine-tune my system. I know nothing about tuning, will a box tuned for 32hertz be the same with my alpine/vs my infinity? Is there a such thing as "too big"?? And I dont know what kind of bass "sound" I am looking for. I have built my system for SQ in the past, but I would like to put her into a competition this summer. I have the Alpines in a decent size bandpass and it hits decent, very clean sounding bass but its not packing the "punch" that I want. I want to rattle the windows and be noticed. Where to I start? I want to figure out a slot ported design. Should I go with 32hz, or 38... and what is the difference between Lower bass, and hitting hard. |
you have to check the parameters on the sub that you're using to be able to tell which design will work best/ more efficient. as for loudness, there's no clear cut rule as to which box will sound the loudest, there's a bunch of different box designs out there that will boost spl if that's what your looking for. |
Are you wanting to compete in SPL or SQ or both? What kind of music do you listen to? What car is it for? 32 hertz will play nice and low but overall woofer control is sacrificed. Also, SPL is generally better at higher frequencies (like 45-60 hz). Ported plays loud but sealed is easier to tune and is better accepted for sound quality. Bandpass is um...not great for anything...lol. I currently have an enclosure for a single DD 10" that is tuned to 38 hertz and it plays loud and is extremely musical. Even though the box is tuned that low, I hit hardest at 48 hertz for competition purposes (144 DB for one 10" is impressive!). If you need help designing a box, just let me know. :) |
It is a 91 integra hatch. I listen to alot of country, or rap/hip channels on sirius... music with good beats. I want to compete in SPL mabye once a season, but must sound good for my personal enjoyment. I like the looks of big ports, but I dont like the sound of a crappy box where you hear the air movement over everything else. I guess I dont really know what I want, but I know that the bandpass I have now is not it. The kicker amp I have almost seems a little underpowered, so keeping amplifier power in mind I'm back at square one. |
Are you ever in the lower mainland? If you come down fairly often, you could swing by my shop and have a listen to my setup. Other than that, its gonna be hard to 'show' you what it sounds like. :) |
