Its more expensive than a Honda Civic but then the engine is so smooth and the way it drives is really, really good. There's a lot of traffic anyway so more power isn't really useful. Interior is classy and the driving feel is really different than from what you get in an Accord or Civic because of RWD and suspension engineering. Think of it as having all the engineering and suspension and brakes that go into the 3 series we have here and just removing some power. Power isn't all that makes a car good.

Oh and that wasn't even the lowest model, there was also the 316i. Again, driving feel and build quality made it more expensive than a Honda.

Ever wonder why Europe and Asia are happy with their smaller engines while we need to always have more power and a bigger badge to show how superior we are compared to others?

im a power house whore, just drove my friends modded E46 m3 yesterday, now THATS a car

i do not find any vehicle "FUN" without sinking me into the seat if i pedal to the metal.

lower end 3 series drivers are almost as bad as high school kids buying some shitty 3000 dollar beemer or benz and thinking they own the highschool parking lot (real story from my previous highschool experience:D)

but what if they preferred the styling of the older gen BMW rather than the new ones? I for one like the e36 more than the e46, but the e92 is still my fav :)

TSX04 05-19-2010 10:07 AM

how much will this car cost?

CP.AR 05-19-2010 10:44 AM

BMW needs to kill this "big eye" front design. They need to go back to the current gen 3-series design IMO

too_slow 05-19-2010 11:57 AM

People lease 323i's because the monthly amount is within the CRA allowable limit on what you can write off as an business expense. In most cases, it is cheaper to lease a 323i than a CSX Premium or an Accord EXL.

Why would I 'lease' an Accord or a poseur Acura when I can get a 'BMW'? The maintenance stuff are all covered. How much does Honda charge for an oil change?

The residual rates on the BMWs are insanely high, thats why people lease them. This applies to Mini's as well. kthxbye

too_slow 05-19-2010 11:58 AM

Oh, and for those 'consumers' who just wants a BMW.. yeah, you can go and make fun of them.

I think I would take a MCS or a GTI before I'd drive this contraption.

50 bucks for oil change

220 bucks for service B, which is just an oil change, "visual inspections"

I'm cool with 323s. Some ppl like the design but simply can't afford the higher model. Nothing wrong with that. Some people need to commute thru heavy traffic everyday. It makes more sense to get a 323 than a 335.

But wutever you do, please dun slap a ///M badge on it. I'm seen too many (especially in the states).

too_slow 05-19-2010 03:40 PM

^Exactly! BMW pays for everything, including bulbs and wiper blades for the duration of the lease!! Honestly, a 323i isn't BAD, but the halogen lamps and the manual climate controls are very wellfare.. oh and the VTEX plastic seats.

I'm surprised to see manual climate controls are standard when the 128i/A3/C250/A4 (hell even the GTI) has standard dual zone climate controls.

(Disclaimer: I'm in no-way endorsing drivers of 323i/barebone A4 C250s.)

Oh, and only the welfare 323i/C250s are available in Canada. The US starts off with the 328i and C300s.

Minata 05-20-2010 11:48 AM

the rear reminds me of the matrix...no thanks!

Mugen EvOlutioN 05-20-2010 12:48 PM

canada should get the same as US than, dont give us the welfare package

skylinergtr 05-20-2010 03:14 PM

i was given a 323i as a courtesy car when my car was at the dealer. Expecting it to be the welfare and worse bmw, i was extremely impressed. The car handled amazingly (like any bmw), the power was there (not extreme, but definitely not underpowered), and the car was fuel efficient and smooth with the 6spd automatic gearbox. I figure, if its cheap enough, and if you can lease them for like $400 a month, why not? they are a decent car with the BMW name if you're one to look at brands.

So only power is a consideration? do you drive a mustang? nothing against mustangs, but handling of a car comes first in my books. A friend of mine took me for a ride in his 1987 325i convertable. The car has 330,000kms. Its not a fast car, but not a slug. In clean shape. Lets just say when he took me for a ride, the amount of fun in a car with not much power amazed me. It handles like a dream, can bounce of the rev limiter like no problem, can slip and slide. Sometimes power is overated.

Would this happen to be Paul's red E30? If so, I am not surprised he bounced it off the rev limiter :haha:

shenmecar 05-20-2010 05:26 PM

The hell.............................................. ........................................

StylinRed 05-20-2010 06:32 PM

pretty cool looking, i wouldn't mind one

im all about the styling of cars, i could care less about the HP/TQ Model #, unless I'm looking to buy a sports car

people who h8 on ppl buying a 328 instead of a 335 are just as stupid as people who think they're special because of the brand of their car

Marco911 05-21-2010 06:19 PM

ae101 05-22-2010 03:23 AM

my dad had a e30 back in the day in asia but now he just wants a car to get from point A to point B, i once ask my dad something & one thing lead to another & at the end i somehow got this quote from him

"i like BMWs, & i would like to own a BMW again if i had money not because i wanna show to ppl that i have a BMW for statues but i want it because i admire the craftsmanship & engineering of the car & u should all ways remember that"

i still think this is a smart move for BMW since small eco friendly compact cars are popular & hot at the moment (i think this is the next honger car)
