Newzbin closed

So newzbin has closed down. Does anyone know an alternative usenet indexing service?

I use NZBsRUs and liked it enough to pay for the VIP access (they had some promo for lifetime for like $5 when I paid).

Volvoman 05-18-2010 08:38 PM

newzleech is back up

or binsearch.org

nns 05-18-2010 08:57 PM

I switched to NZBMatrix.com and NZBS.org. Both combined don't even come close to 10% of what Newzbin used to be.

Newzbin was just so polished and perfect. No other provider has a raw search feature like Newzbin had.

BTW, I'm a little surprised to hear there are other users on here who use newsgroups. I never see it brought up in discussions; it's always about torrents.

binsearch.info (has a 600+ day retention list)
nzbindex.com

I use nzbmatrix as well. However, it was down for much of yesterday afternoon/evening too. It's back up now. It's a "membership" search engine though so you have to donate to use it. (it's not a lot - like $5 lifetime) I find it much faster with indexing and gets stuff almost right away.

Other ones I use are nzbclub.com and binsearch.info

nns 05-19-2010 08:50 AM

You're not obligated to donate to use nzbmatrix. In order to use their premium features, you have to donate. To search and download nzbs, you don't need to pay.

Downloading nzb files off nzbmatrix can be painfully slow sometimes. An NZB file I was downloading that was around 2 MB was going at around 30-40 kB/s. Just 1 of the things I miss about Newzbin, their NZBs always downloaded quickly.

Care to explain what I'm missing by not using them?

Ch28 05-19-2010 09:09 AM

switched over to nzbmatrix after the ruling came down on newzbin

TOS'd 05-19-2010 09:20 AM

Nzbmatrix is painfully slow when it comes to getting nzb files. Not talking about speed, but for the normal user you have to download/open the zip folder and then extract it. Or you can go vip, $10 or so, which makes it so much easier.

I also love how shows get put up so fast though.

No ratios = no need to upload
Max speed all the time

Here's a guide to newsgroups: http://slyck.com/ng . There's also a video series on that site.

They're back, with new owners. Your accounts should still be there, along with any credit you had.

So I just got into the usenet game, have loved it so far. Probably downloaded close to 300GBS worth of stuff for the last couple weeks. Is the general consensus still that newzbin is the best index? I have been mainly using nzbmatrix (and their affiliate ;)). Any more recommendations for index sites?

What servers do u guys use and how much do you pay for it ? I have a lightning account with 400 day retention unlim downloads, but next month i prob want to switch to something with 900 day retention

Expresso 03-06-2011 01:05 PM

How much do they typically cost? Or are there any 'free' ones?

nns 03-06-2011 01:26 PM

Mysterbin.com for file search.

Astraweb and blocknews are good providers. Usenet-news too.

You need a server provider, which is what ^ is talking about when referring to astraweb etc. Depending on how much your willing to spend, 5-20 dollars a month. The main difference is retention days (the more retention days allow you to download older stuff) , speed at which you can download at, and how many simotaneous connections you can have.

From there you go to index sites which is kinda like torrent bay. For VIP access at nzbmatrix it's 10(?)$ for life and your pretty set
