Need budget computer

So I think my computer is due for replacing...sometimes when I turn it on, it shuts of by itself and won't turn on again unless I leave it alone for a few minutes. Also, it freezes frequently if running more than one application. For reference, it's a Athlon 3000 2.0 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB HD :p

Anyways, I need a budget computer to replace it. Mainly just to surf the net, listen to music, and watch videos. Very very rarely, occasional gaming. I found this on sale at bestbuy for $499. Will this suffice?

AMD Phenon II X4 910 2.6 GHz
8 GB Ram
1 TB HD
512MB ATI Radeon 4350
300W Power supply

Any concerns with refurbed computers? The last time I owned a HP was about 10 years ago...after 2 years, the PS died and they wanted over $100 to replace it, and apparently only a HP PS would fit in it.

Any other suggestions for a budget desktop? Must be less than $600. Thanks!

that spec is WAAAAYY more than enough for your needs.

only thing i would change is PS, but HP's cases are different and usually require their specfic PSU.

^You think the stock PS will fry like my last one, or will it be sufficient?

bcedhk 05-23-2010 03:16 PM

i donno if it will fry (really depends on the brand/build quality), but i am not sure if it will be sufficient when using at 100%.

My last HP had psu issues cause it would spike during high cpu use and keeps restarting

How about in comparison to this one for $569?

you don't need a seperate video card if your just surfing the net etc.
Just get a mobo with onboard video!

just go build your own... u can probably do it for $300 bux if u are just browsing, music and video

Thanks for all the help guys, I ended up purchasing the one in my original post for $499. I'll stick with the stock PSU for now...I'm assuming it should be sufficient for my use.

That computer should be plently good... my older refurbished m8400f HP that I had for about 2 years never had any problems.

I recently got the p6310f which I've been using for 3 weeks now, pretty beasty computer... This is the probably one of the best you can get now on the market for the price...

4x AMD Athlon II 630 Quad-Core
2.80GHz
6GB DDR3 RAM
1 TB HD

Everything is pretty much good, just if I want to upgrade the GeForce 9100 graphics card it comes with you gotta also upgrade the 300W power supply.
