If a report from Japan's Best Car is to be believed, Toyota will delay the release of the FT-86 from 2011 to 2013.

The reasons behind the delay are varied, and include a different design direction, the economic slowdown and possibly a revised powertrain strategy that could include some kind of hybrid motivation.
I don't get it this concept is generally very well received, why the need for a change? first they want to change the target audience from late 20's -30's to now 40 YO males....now they are thinking of a hybrid drivetrain? the very least, please dont make another FWD.

"Additionally, ToMoCo is reportedly gauging the success of the Honda CR-Z, which could influence the final drivetrain specs of the FT-86"

I thought people lost all hope after the first redesign rumor??

StylinRed 05-26-2010 04:20 PM

cococly 05-26-2010 04:21 PM

How about its Subaru cousin?

tofu1413 05-26-2010 04:24 PM

Toyota has just shot themselves in the foot for making a car like this to appeal to middle aged men.

great. just great.

twitchyzero 05-26-2010 09:24 PM

middle aged men would rather buy IS-F as a sporty car...not a RWD sports compact

FWD hybrid is fail.

toyota86 05-26-2010 11:08 PM

If this became FWD and or Hybrid, I would never ever buy it. Toyota for the first time in many years actually convinced me to start saving up for FT86 when they first debuted it. Now, seeing all the changes they've already made and ones they are rumored to, it looks like what I've saved up will become the E30 M3 fund instead. I can already picture the CR-Z being an epic fail, why compare?

toyota86 isnt gonna drive a toyota? :o
