turbo help

Hi i am looking into a Garrett GT2560R and was wondering if this would be a good choice as an upgrade to the stock sr20det turbo... thanks...

SOTY 05-30-2010 10:44 AM

It would be a good upgrade for sure. Ball bearings, very quick spool and should be good to around 300 horse.

I think the GT2560R (aka the GT28R) is what came on the newer Silvias.

okay thank you for your help. Just still looking into buying one right now..

PM Akira@rise we might even have a good used one in stock and if memory serves correct (he would know for sure) it should be good to over 300whp (with other mods) on that motor with little lag.

WhiteKnight 05-30-2010 10:16 PM

okay so this turbo would be able to put out say close to 300?

SOTY 05-31-2010 08:54 AM

The turbo should handle it but you'll obviously need some more mods (injectors, fuel pump and software) to match the performance.

You're not going to get 300 hp by just bolting the bigger snail on.

Are they all the same "bent" shape? If some fins look different than the other fins then thats a no no. Also pull the shaft back and forth and see if it moves, also wiggle it around and see if it moves. Are there grooves in the housing from the fins touching it? If its new in the box it should have no sign's of wear.

Berz out.

SOTY 06-01-2010 02:06 PM

that wheel looks busted up.

Phil@rise 06-01-2010 02:11 PM

Thats fucked I'd suspect to much end play. It should be repairable and should not be run in its current condition.

WhiteKnight 06-01-2010 03:55 PM

thanks guy for your info, this was actually a different guy who posted me pics on a gt2871r.. this is not the brand new one (gt2560) I also think something is wrong that dosent look right...

Probably why it wasn't in the car!

Definately doesn't look quite right.

It will need at least a new ball bearing center section and a new compressor wheel. Not really worth fixing...
