No offense man, just pointing out what I see from those pictures. |
I got to play with the G11 today and I must admit, it feels really nice with the controls compared to the S90, where everything is hidden within menus. |
does the S90 still have barrel distortion problem? it is true that s90 have almost the same amount of setting at the g11 but it doesn't not have individual dials for each function, say iso. The dials and the flip viewfinder is what differentiate s90 and g11. That and the barrel distortion and the obvious size difference |

Biggest diff between the g11 and s90 is the overall size, flipping screen, hot shoe and a viewfinder Posted via RS Mobile |

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up going a totally different direction and bought a lightly used D40 off of CL. I was debating between the G11 and a D3000, but upon some research on the web I found that the D3000 was noisier (image wise) and slower to use than the D40. I also read that the D40 is alot more sensitive to light due to the lower mp count on the sensor resulting in each pixel being more sensitive? And yes, I'd most likely want to upgrade later on anyway, so going a used route and spending less also saved me a bit of money |
^ You must have read Ken Rockwell? :haha: |

Good decision. I was thinking of getting a mid-level superzoom P&S camera as well, but ended up with an older Nikon D50. |
The D40 isn't bad at all. I love mine. |

In the end it comes down to personal preference. But I think s90 does have better photo quality. |
^ when I use my s90 I use it at f2.8 works a lot better |

another camera i would've considered would be the new Sony EVL series. it's new, but it seems to be pretty decent considering the sensor size for the price (and SLR lens capability). i debated buying a smaller camera for more portability reasons as well. i love my friend's Leica X1, but i can't justify the cost. I then thought of the Leica D-Lux 4, but i didn't like the shot examples i saw over 400ISO (which is supposedly better than the Panasonic LX3). anyways, good choice on buying an entry level DSLR. you might get hooked ;) happy shooting! |
^ The X1 is so awesome, amazing quality! However, the battery life is terrible. |

can't beat the large sensor on the small body though. i believe it's a Nikon D300 sensor? (1.5 crop) |
^ Shit man. $3000 for a pimped out X1.. that's steep! |

LoL...You and your damn MukMuk fetish! :p Leica Canada lent us an X1 for a few days, and we found it to be somewhat noisy. It was an early production unit, so maybe that's why...? |

i'm suprised it was a bit noisy! i thought that sensor would make up for a lot compared to those shots i've seen of the D-Lux4 shots (horrible about 400 iso). Muk Muk for life!! |
