Adobe Flash / Shockwave: Reverse engineering?

Is it even possible to reverse engineer a .swf file to see what kind of action scripts it uses?

Im a newb at flash but so far I tried opening a swf file in adobe flex 3 and it just plays the file for me, rather than "decoding" it per-say.

Haven't been playing with flash for a long while, I remember there was an app where you could load a SWF and it would produce a .fla for you. It's not a perfect translation, but you get a lot out of it. So yes, technically, there's such a thing.

As a past flash guru, I'd say the best way to learn flash is to watch what other ppl do and try to imitate it without any other help. Research your way out. I think I did that all the way to learn my way in action script/flash

And what kind of effect do you need?

I made a flash file in the past, like 4 years ago. It had something to do with main.as and an action script, and I have no clue what these are! I just remember I put some script into it and then compressed the file into .swf

So when its in .fla format, is it like going backward in the creation process? Does it break the .swf format down into script?
