Monitor Died On Me - WTF! :( I have a Samsung SyncMaster 205BW. I purchased this back in 2008 as a recommendation by several RS members. The monitor held up well until an hour ago. It suddenly started flickering, as if there was no power going to it. There was nothing I could do to stop this flickering. I unplugged the VGA cable and it still did this. All I could do was turn it on or off. The warranty period is over. Is it worth investigating and fixing or should I go Office Space on it with a bat in a soccer field? I tested the monitor on my sister's PC and my Mac - no good. Tried other monitors on my PC and it worked fine. Any suggestions? Thanks! |
Samsung's monitors have a 3-year warranty ... If you bought it in 2008, it should still be under warranty. Anyways, I've noticed a lot of the 205BWs and 225BWs coming in w/ dead power supplies, dead backlights, and/or broken hinges after 1-2 years of use. Samsung obviously cheaped out on parts on those models ... |
Well, if in deed your monitor is out of warranty and it's too expensive to repair, you might as well go out and get yourself a nice phat HD 24" monitor. |

Sweet it's within the warranty period! :D |

Got one of these myself! Had it since 06 and it has probably spent more time on than off. Only problem I ever had with it was the early models had bad tilt hinges that eventually just let the monitor point down. Maybe it will die soon and I can buy something huge. :P Overall great screens. |
