hks ssqv bov help please!!!! hi, i have a 1989 nissan 180sx unfortunately it came with a ca18det not sr20det meaning if i run an open bov my car will run rich i was wondering if anyone knows a good place where i could get my bov installed and recirc? my ca18det is stock, and my girlfriend bought me an hks ssqv bov for my anniversary gift. just looking for a solid installation for a decent price, any recomendations? let me know asap please! do i have to buy the recirc kit/flange/hot pipe seperately? or will they provide one thanks !!! |
im guessing its the newer style without the adjustable spring on the back? |
this one right here, the black edition http://www.streetunit.com/HKS_SSQV_U...1004-kk001.htm should i try doing it myself? or is there a local shop someone could vouch for that could take care of it for me? |
You can honestly do it yourself but if you are running the stock bypass valve that recirculates back into the intake stream, it is best to stick with that, rather than the HKS SSQV. A lot of MR2 owners do this only to find no benefit from switching over to the HKS other than for earning points at car shows. I don't know if HKS still makes this (or has it for this BOV) but they should have a recirculation kit/fitting available which you will need if you plan on using it. Otherwise, try the usual RS Sponsors: Rise Auto Salon - Richmond Drivehard Performance - Richmond The Speed Syndicate - Burnaby Evolution Auto Performance - Maple Ridge MFRT - Vancouver Racing Greed - Coquitlam |
thanks for your input! i was thinking of trying to tackle it myself, my only concern is the ca18det didn't come with a stock bov at all so i'm a little confused where to start. nissan thought it would be fine without one but i do notice a lot of surge. people have said after a bov was added, it way more smoothly recirc, and once it was open it started to run rich. anyways, i'll do more research, thanks so much tho! |
It's either a blow-off valve or a bypass valve. If it's a turbo application, it should at least have a bypass valve otherwise, the turbo would have destroyed itself a long time ago. Can't comment on the smooth recirc since I dont know enough about Nissans. |
Whether it's a CA or an SR makes no difference, as running an atmospheric BOV will cause it to run slightly rich either way. As you have the "universal" SSQV, you're going to have to get the flange welded on, and it's not quite a straight bolt on affair. |
