I don't think he's talking about Go Fish, but I definitely would recommend Go Fish. I'd agree with the sentiment that we don't have really regionalized cuisine (like Cajun or tex mex or whatnot) but there is a definite selection of West Coast - type restaurants that use locally caught fish or goodies from the Fraser Valley or Okanagan. Seafood would definitely be a highlight. PS - medium and large chains (Joey's and Keg) in general suck ass. Well maybe not suck ass, but they are nothing compared to a good independent or a small chain. |
Maybe try some of the restaurants in Steveston Village? Theres some diverse restaurants there and you can let your folks choose where they want to eat while you guys walk around enjoying the scenery. Food there is diverse yet some things you might not have seen in Taiwan. My dad's half japanese, half taiwanese and he loves the Fish and Chips we have here. I always bring a order home after work and he gets pretty excited to eat it :) |

fish and chips in Steveston are a good bet. |
Haha I had the same dilemna last month. My cousin from LA brought his friends over and they were from Philadelphia and they were like "So what's Vancouver got that's special?... cuz you know if you came down to my city for sure I'd take you to get the best Philly Cheesesteak" ... and then I was just like ...uhhh..... "Vancouver has the Japadog?...and...um... salmon" ... and they gave me the most wtf look ... why would the most "Vancouver/Canadian thing to do be a JAPANESE Hotdog" ... I mean yes I know where to take them in terms of getting good food (Ebisu hehehehe) but something that screams "We're famous for it in Vancity" ... I can't think of anything... |
My family from Los Angeles came to visit us and the only thing they knew of was Japadog. We took them to Guu in Gastown and they loved it. |

I was walking along Main St. today and came across EAST IS EAST... they specialize in CHAI tea. The room decor is captivating with a middle eastern ambiance. You can also check out www.secretguidevancouver.com for unique things to do in vancouver |
the truth is sad. The only food that sorta originated from Vancouver, BC would be first nation food, which can be found in a dumpster. Other than this, everything else originated from another place. We don't got much food to show, but we do have some pretty unique places: cap suspension bride, stanley park, science world, granville island, night market, vancouver art gallery. Some other places would be Hell gate (Hope), tofino and long beach (Victoria), whistler (whistler). |
