I'm not afraid to admit I didn't like the idea of sensors/camera's before cause parking is something that's 2nd nature to some. However about couple yrs back I got a rear view camera installed and I feel that yes I sometimes use it, but the best thing is it helps I can see the curb, the car in the back, sometimes people come a little too close while parking I can see it Posted via RS Mobile |

They are a damn useful aide Think of it this way would you want a person who's not the greatest at backing up do so with your car behind them without sensors. Consider said parking challenged person gracious by protecting not only his but the vehicles of others around him as well. |

Save money, lives with reverse parking sensors Every 1.6 minutes, an American driver backs into trouble. And when he or she does, it usually means costly vehicle repairs or even worse, fatal accidents involving children. This grim scenario comes from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ( IIHS ) which said that backover accidents are common and account for thousands of dollars in damages to vehicles and property. "Backing up your vehicle at just 5 miles per hour ( mph ) and hitting a pole can result in $500-$1,500 in damages to your vehicle. A minimum repair on a four wheel drive vehicle is $700-$2,500," the IIHS said. The problem is caused mainly by the driver’s inability to see what is behind the vehicle. Consumer Reports said some vehicles have rear blind spots as deep as 50 feet, causing the driver to hit toys, bicycles, poles or another vehicle while backing out of the garage or driveway. But the greatest harm comes from backover accidents involving children and the number of victims is increasing. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( NHTSA ) said over a hundred people – mostly children – are killed and 6,000 are injured yearly by vehicles that are backing up. Most of these accidents occur in parking lots and driveways with the vehicle being driven by a parent, relative or family friend. In 2004 alone, at least 165 children died in non-traffic, non-crash incidents of which 101 died when backed over by a vehicle, according to the Kansas-based national child safety organization Kids and Cars. Five hundred sixty-one backover accidents were recorded from 1994 to 2004 of which 392 – mostly one-year-old kids - died. Kids and Cars added that over 60% of backover accidents involved trucks, vans or sport-utility vehicles, and in over 70% of the incidents, a parent or close relative was behind the wheel. To avoid costly vehicle repairs and the tragedy of losing a loved one, especially your own child, it pays to have reverse parking sensors or backup sensors in your vehicle. The NHTSA said these life-saving devices can prevent over 90% of backover accidents and they don’t cost much nowadays. Depending on the features, these devices ( that beep whenever you get close to a person or object ) sell for about $50 to $450. A J.D. Power survey of 10,000 consumers found that 72% would like to have backup sensors on their vehicles and are willing to pay an additional $300 for them. But you don’t have to spend a fortune nowadays since there are many types to choose from and prices are dropping. Get a backup sensor today for peaceful, worry-free driving. Funny thing after reading this post yesterday, I witnessed a guy back up in a Shell gas station in Abbotsford over and down retaining wall in the parking lot. Got his truck stuck complete with burning rubber while he desperately tried to free his truck. He eventually got out and asked people for a rope.. Funny stuff, but I felt bad for him.... should have sold him a camera. :) |

SoundsGood, Rise and Soundworks all carry back up sensors and back up cameras. It never hurts to have a little help when backing up. If it saves one child per year then its well worth it! |

anyway... anything under the $200 range installed? Ebay has them for $20 for china brand... or autosonar for $80. Are they similiar quality? I guess only downside is if the sensors dont work out of the box you'd have to wait around to get them swapped. |
^^ I'm sure we've got something in your price range. YGPM! |
I need a quote on backup sensor, rear-view camera, Compustar and kenwood/pioneer nav system. If I got time I would drop by, still looking for a good deal. |
Don't like backup sensors. I think people who can't park their cars should lose their license (I started a thread on this way back and got flamed, no doubt from all the idiot drivers on RS who can't park). Most vehicles I work on have backup sensors (high-end European cars mainly). And a lot of them have problems. Some have problems with the range system not giving accurate information. Some have individual sensors go out so your backup system now has a "blind spot". Some systems are so bad that failure of a single sensor disables the whole system. Would you rather back up your car using your own senses to determine if it's safe, or rely on a piece of technology that's known to have problems to "save your ass" when you're backing up? And what if you're used to your backup system working and rely on it to back up and then it fails? Would you know if it's even failed? Would the lack of any warning beeps make you think the coast was clear when in fact the system wasn't working? |
