Bought myself an SE w800i end of 2nd year during co-op when I could afford a better one heh.
Got an SE w580i to replace it afterwards, which was a huge mistake.
Have an SE Xperia X10 now.

Same here. Grade 12 in 1998. There was only one other person in my school with a cell phone. Teachers would occasionally crack lame jokes about it. I got it because my GF lived in Richmond and I lived in Nanaimo, and it considered calls to there as local calls at the time.

My first phone was a nokia 5190 on Rogers TDMA I think.
I didnt even have text messaging ability lol

samsung Q208 in grade 11, awesome color screen back in the time
sony ericsson W900 during grade 12, got spoiled by the swivel design
sharp 902SH after grade 12, again it was like another break through with color screen and the large size
sony ericsson W900, W580, W705 and a few various SE phones within 3 years

nokia N95-5

blackberry 9700 now
apple iphone 4 near the future

i had an old nokia as well 5xxx or 6xxx i forget. also a startac and a 3390 in that order.
