t2i new metering worth it?
 

im wondering is the new metering system on the t2i (63 zone spc) gonna be a huge gain/factor than the t1i which offers 35?

I dont need the video improvements, I just want one that will be an upgrade from my d70s.. i found my old d70s to have poor and slow AF even if i am using a 50mm f/1.4!

It's certainly better in some situations, but it won't be a huge improvement. Improvements in SLR metering have come in small steps since the early 1990's.

The D70s still puts out great images though, as the Sony CCD sensor in that camera is capable of great colour and is one of the most common DSLR sensors ever made. Just about every non-Canon 6MP DSLR had it.

Why not get a Nikon D5000 if you're already invested in the Nikon system?

i actually sold all my nikon gear since I thought i would go micro 4/3 system.. but now i want to try a canon setup.

so i gues the 35 metering system on the t1i will be good enough?

It's more than good enough. Hell, the metering on my made in 1988 Nikon F4s is more than good enough. Of course, nothing is fool-proof, so you should know some things can throw off any metering system like harsh back light.

Why not just get the T2i instead of the T1i?

i dont really need the HD video features, and i think the better LCD isn't worth an extra 200 dollars. I rather put that 200 on an used L lens.

or is there any feature that is a must have on the t2i? cause from what i read, is just a bigger mp sensor, 3:2 lcd screen, and a .3 or something faster FPS during raw mode. I mean the lcd improvement is a nice thing, but i really review my photos like 2-3 seconds each so I think the t1i is good enough.

Haha...oops, didn't know the T1i is still in production, and was $200 less than the T2i.

I think is only a year old the t1i. they are removing xsi from the lineup and trying to get rid of the xs and the t1i.

the sensor on the t1i and t2i should be almost identical in terms of image quality from what i read.

where is a good places to check out L lens? I want to get the 24-70mm :D

The 24-70 might be updated soon, so you might want to hold off on it. The Canon 24-70L is the worst 24-70mm f2.8 lens out of the Big Three - it's overdue for a new version. Rumour has it that an IS version will be introduced along with the 1DsMKIV.

None. The 24-70 and the the 24-105 as they stand now are decent, but not as sharp as the Nikon or Sony equivalents. If you have a crop camera, I would recommend the 15-85 EF-S - it is stunningly sharp. It might be sharper than my Sony/Zeiss 16-80.

I have that lens and it's crazy sharp. Pics look awesome on my 7D. And I would definately go with T2i for extra $200. It's not only the screen that's better, but the HD video (which you said you didn't care about). That's kind of what I said when I got the 7D, but when I went zip lining in Whistler and took some HD video, it fucking looks awesome on my iMac :D

i think most upgraders to the t2i buy it for the sensor and additional video modes

I just went from 30D to a T2i for it's HD video capabilities. Kinda disappointed by it's noise as it is worse than my 30D when it comes to noise at both iso800 and 1600 in RAW. although the JPEG noise reduction stuff works pretty damn well.

Thinking about selling the 30D but it just feels so much better on the hand(gripped) compare to the tiny T2i.

Sell the 30D and the T2i and get the 7D. You won't be disappointed.

how is the noise after post processing i.e. LR with NR turned off in both cameras for RAW?

I was comparing between the t2i and 7D and their noise levels were almost identical to me. i was surprised to hear that the 30D had less noise.

I didn't play around in processing but it was just comparison of the raw image shot with the same lens and same settings.

The 30D has a lot less pixels in the same sensor area so its not too unreasonable to be less noisy, although I thought given T2i has the 7D sensor, it should be hella more advanced and perform much better.

T2i has a similar sensor to the 7D not the same.
