Hey guys I am going to buy my first car. Does any of this (car and dealership) sound fishy to you guys? And what are some things i should look for when buying a used car.

The dealership sounds fishy - it's on King George and it's called "House of Best Deals" - but the ad doesn't convey too much sleaze, imo.

That said, in my opinion, you shouldn't buy from anywhere without doing your homework. Run the VIN's and ensure that they're not hiding anything about the car's past. Have it independently inspected, even if they give you a hard time and tell you they've already had an inspection performed.

If you encounter any fishy behaviour or you turn up any dirt on the car itself, just walk away. There's plenty of cars for sale, so you can afford to be picky and make sure you get a good vehicle.

(For the record, private sellers are generally cheaper than dealerships and less likely to rip you off... personally I'll always try to find a vehicle being privately sold before looking at dealerships, especially ones calling themselves 'House of Best Deals'...)

Anyway, Caveat Emptor, right? Do your homework on the vehicle and you won't get burned.

I've nothing really to say about the cars you've posted, but don't forget to budget for insurance, repairs and fuel. It quickly adds up.

I dunno if you're specifically looking for modded vehicles, but for me, engine mods are an immediate warning sign.

Heh, whatever, if it's tastefully modded I'm sure you'll have no problem selling.

Personally, I think it's usually best to part out your car and revert it to stock if you can do so without spending a fortune. Modifications don't really add to a car's value, so you might as well part out whatever you can and sell it here on the RS classifieds/Craigslist/Ebay, imo.

I parted out my old Integra and completely reverted the car to stock before I put it up for sale, and it was an old lady that ended up buying it. I doubt she would've wanted a car with Tein coilovers and an SAFC. I sold all my aftermarket parts on Ebay or here on RS, which worked out to a little over $2k. Net profit was maybe $1300 though because I had to spend money to fully revert the car back to stock.

Anyway, I digress... good luck with the sale. :thumbsup:

7k for a 12 years old GS integra?!?!?
honestly..i wouldn't pay more than 4-5k for it...considering you can get a 5-10 years old rsx, civic..etc for less than 7K

Hey everyone, that's my friends business. You get warranty and vehicle inspection with financing if you buy from him. Not even fishy, these people haven't even dealt with them. Go look and ask, make offers.

as an integra owner currently. (ITR in my case)

check for..:


- previous damages. look for newer or unusual welds, cracked paint (cracking bondo)

- check the area where the spare tire compartment is. it'll tell something. check for bulkhead repairs back there. crappy repairs would result in a puddle of water and it'll collect on the spare tire.

- car would typically have moisture inside tail lights. usually its old tail light seals that need replacing. also would cause a puddle of water.

- make sure it doesnt burn oil. especially the GSR or ITR motors

- try not to buy a moded one. 90% of the time for these cars, theyre not quality parts and theyre not done right.

The first ad you posted I'd stay far far away from.
I would stay away from most Dealerships let alone one in Surrey and with a name like that.

The second one looks alright, and it's being sold by Richmond Suzuki, so it'd be a lot safer... but however as already mentioned, it's pretty overpriced.

Take your time for your first car. I took my time to purchase my first car and was so happy with it.

Out of everybody I know in their teens and 20's, they all take care of their cars if they own it themselves, except for the spoiled ones.

So I don't know if those Q&A's are really true. Except maybe in Surrey.

Stay away from those little dealerships on King George, Kingsway, Hastings, etc. You know the ones I'm talking about. If you're dead set on buying from a dealership like these, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Have it inspected (even if they say it's been inspected, do it again) , run all the car proof, car faxes, etc, you can think of.

I would also stay far away from a modded car. It's just more things you need to becareful of, and for a first car, it's not worth it.

Find a nice, low km, STOCK car. Then you can start modding the car the way YOU want to, and you know the car has a good foundation to start with.

Double Check the VIN number, if it's JH4DC4330VS801088 , that's my old totalled integra that's back on the road.

You don't think men between the ages of 16 and 25 are the most likely to abuse their car? (ie. drive the shit out of it, drop the clutch from 7k rpm, drive into the ditch, etc)

Most of the time I'd much, much rather buy a car from a middle-aged woman than a 21 year old dude. It's also much more likely a middle-aged woman would be the original owner of the car. More likely that they went to the dealership for servicing, too, rather than some guy's driveway.

Anyway, for me mods are a definite danger sign that I try to avoid whenever possible.

Not all the time, the ep3 I picked up was modded already modded, but it was driven by a chick so it was religiously maintained.

IMO its worth it to pay a few extra hundred for a near identical vehicle from a well known, respectable dealership.... check out the VSA website to see which dealerships are credited, which salespeople are licenced, and which lots have had past mischief.

Just because the asking price is 5000, doesn't mean you won't have to pay 2000 to fix it 2 weeks later....

2nd integra does not have a valid vin either.
and the dealership paid around 2500-3000 for it...

damn i miss my integra...damn solid cars with a few boltons!

Like stated above, when looking at Integras, make sure you check for any leaking around the rear of the car of water as that was a common problem and may have lead to electrical problems like it did with me.
and try to find one with the least mods, so many people put shitty parts on and beat the crap out of these cars
that being said, once you find a good condition one, you'll be very pleased and have so much fun with one
I had a 1995 as my first car and I absolutely loved it, treat it right and it will run like a tank and they're so much fun to mod and play around with
I gave the car to my mom after I got a new car last year, and the motor went on the highway after a rad hose blew just last month, it was at 333xxxkm's

Timing belt and water pump is due every 100,000km so I would check to see if that has been done. B series engines with high mileage tend to burn oil, so piston rings and valve seals might need to be replaced. Get a mechanical inspection done before buying, also check the aircare records.
