iPod touch vs. Nintendo DSi XL for web browsing/email checking Hey guys, just need your feedback. My wife and I don't own any smart phones/laptops and were looking to buy a small portable device that we can bring when we go on holidays just to check email and do simple web browsing. We figured the best way would be with either an iPod touch or Nindtendo DSi XL since they at least have alternate use for us (listening to music/playing games). Any feedback on the web capabilities of these two? I have a first gen PSP that has very poor web browsing capabilities. Half the time, it can't even load a page b/c it says memory is full. |
Don't even bother using a DS for browsing the web. |
Never used a DS for browsing but Internet browing on the iPod touch is alright. (it's leaps and bounds better than a Blackberry at least). I'd get a cheap iPod touch (I just sold my 1st gen 16GB for $120 which is about the same price as a DS) and set up your e-mail accounts on the native e-mail app. You an even go find some iPod apps that might be useful for your travels (like destination guides, transit planners, etc) that you can use that a DS wouldn't be able to do. |
a ds is terrible for web browsing. Tried it once (becuase I left all my other devices at home) and it was so stressful. ipod is way better than the ds for browsing. |
Thanks for the replies guys. iPod touch it is! |
ipod touch has some great games too. It plays anything an iphone will, except you won't have full network capabilities unless you're connected to wifi |
Hands down the ipod touch. |
as for a gaming console.. the psp go would be better for browsing over the DS series.. but given your choices, ipod touch |
^Really? I have a PSP already, but I find it very poor for web browsing...half the time it won't load a page b/c it says I'm out of memory!!! Is it referring to the memory stick or built-in memory?! |
PSP != PSP Go |
Psp is better than ds on browsing, but not much better. :p iPad if u can spend a little more. :) currently typing using my new toy. ;) |
iPod Touch by far. |
iPod Touch hands down. Unless you need flash. Posted via RS Mobile |

My GF's daughter was absolutely stunned when she finally tried her new DSi to see how bad surfing the web was. She had a choice of a DSi or a iTouch, should've tried the DSI first. Lesson learned, Nintendo makes great games, sucks at everything else. |
Are you in rush to get one soon? If so, then iPod Touch or iPad are not bad If not then later this year there will be quite a few tablet devices coming out with Linux, Android OS. |
the touchs are good, but why not invest in a simple wifi capable phone? it doesn't even have to be a smart phone per se but touch really does the job |
Got the dsi, dsi lite and psp3000/go. The web surfing experience on those devices were agonizing at best. Things take way too long to load and tons of missing frames due to lack of plugins. The iPod touch is 100x better. However, after getting the iPad I would say that the itouch is only "ok". It really depends on your needs. If you are mainly looking for a solid gaming platform then it would have to be a pspgo with the ff7,8 gow, crisis core, dissidia etc. It still does minimal web surfing and mp3 playback but it's cumbersome and not as good as an iPod. If it's mainly for web, music and the casual 30min or so "time killer" games then go with itouch for max portability or an iPad if you don't mind carrying a small bag. Posted via RS Mobile |
It's not even a comparison. iPod touch. |
