Roadside camping?

I was wondering what the laws concerning roadside camping are in BC?
I'm doing a trip to the interior in a couple of weeks where we'll be taking the last ferry over to the mainland, so all the privates camgrounds will be locked down by the time we get over there.
We were thinking of just pitching a tent at the rest stop at the summit of the coquihalla. Are there any laws or anything against doing so? Or using one of the other rest areas? (we wont have enough room to sleep in the car) I dont know if its labelled as a "day use" area or not.
The other option would be going through Manning park, but I was under the impression they lock up the gates on the campgrounds

There's a good place on the coquihalla before the summit. It's the Carolin Mines exit approx 10 mins before the summit (right before the snowshed).

Even with a car you can drive in on the gravel roads and find a grassy place to camp.

Take the exit, go left, then right across the bridge over the river. The road is bumpy but I took my lowered 240sx on it for the first few kms without trouble.
