netbook restore anyone know where in the world i can obtain a version of "Windows XP Home Edition ULCPC"?? i need to restore my netbook, and it didnt come with any recovery discs or partition. it's a HP MINI 110-1030CA. I looked around HP's site and they want $25 for a stupid recovery disc which SHOULD have been included anyways, i dont understand why they didnt. so other than getting a copy from HP, what r some other ways of getting a copy of xp home ULCPC? i dont mind torrenting a copy as long as it works with the xp key on my netbook. |
*cough* torrent *cough* |
no need to cough, as i am using a legit cdkey, not pirated and no i cant find any torrents for the ULCPC version, and im not sure what versions my key will work with thats y im asking here. heck i think any version of the ULCPC xp will work, be it DELL, ACER, HP, etc etc. i just need the ULCPC version. |
buy new computer from store, use disc, return computer?... |
You're screw, I tried to find ULCPC version also.. no luck. |
That's weird. Almost all notebooks nowadays should come with a recovery partition. |

Look in one of the manuals/booklets that came with the netbook. There is a page in there that states what to do to restore it. I have the same the same netbook, and I remember reading something in one of the booklets. I'd go look for you, but the box is in storage. |
i had an eeepc which fucked up and basically wouldnt allow me to login. basically did some searching and found a way to access some bios options...1 of which allowed me to do a complete fresh partition/reinstalling of the OS. do some digging and see if its the same case. |

There should be a recovery partition on it ... I can't remember if it's F10 or F11 (a little tipsy right now) ... Press it when the HP screen comes up before Windows loads ... |
It's been a while since I had to restore my netbook (and I've since sold it) but I'm fairly sure I used an OEM version of XP Home and it worked with the ULCPC key. Go download a copy of XP Home OEM (not the corporate or retail or anything like that since keys are tied to specific versions) and try it out. Since netbooks don't have a CDROM drive, you'll also need to try make a USB drive bootable with the XP files or buy an external CDROM. |
so i took syee's advice, and it seems like an OEM version works. so far, it hasnt asked me to activate it yet. |
