Comp freezes while downloading torrents Hey RS gurus. I've been having issues with my computer freezing while downloading torrents. I never had issues up until I changed to Windows 7 64. I've tried utorrent and Vuze and the issue is the same. If downloading slowly it doesn't seem to freeze. But when downloading speed reaches a total of over 200kb/sec my comp freezes and I need to manually reboot. No blue screen, just completely freezes. It's kind of driving me nuts. I've googled with no success. Anyone had this issue before? I'm running legit Win 7 64 Q6600 cpu 4 gig ddr2 ram |
first thing i will check is the hard drive try torrenting on another hd |
Is it only when torrenting? I had a similar issue with random lockups, no BSOD, just a freeze and sound loop. It was random too, sometimes 2 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes, sometimes 2 hours. Turns out it was my motherboard that went bad. |
my bet would be ram |
run prime95 torture test, blend and small fft's, see if it throws any errors. http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/ If not, try disabling all checksum offloading on your network adapter. Update/reinstall network/chipset drivers as well. |
check your HDD, as well as any HDD connection drivers, and network drivers |
Too much Pr0n |

I'm downloading audio books. ;) |
Only freezes when torrenting and total speed is around 200kb/s I can download anything else without any issues. I've tried saving torrents to different hdd and still same outcome. I'll maybe try running another stress test and reinstall network drivers and see how it goes. Thanks guys! Anyone else running windows 7 64 and torrenting with no issues? I've googled and found people with similar issues as me, but no one has a fix. |
my laptop does just fine |
Are you network drivers up to date for 64 bit? Posted via RS Mobile |
did you trying a new network card? or maybe updating drivers if its not updated |
So I think I fixed it. I've been running Vuze for two days straight with no issues. Just needed to update the Network drivers for my mobo. Asus didn't have a Windows 7 driver for my P5K mobo. But with a little more research I found out apparently I could run the Vista 64 drivers if I changed the compatibility mode. Didn't know I could do that with windows 7. Anyways, Thanks guys! |
asus and ATi totally failed big time on their win 7 updates...at least for their core 2 duo era hardwares |
