GF is looking for a PDA cellphone that will last long

Her 2 yr old SE bar phone crapped out last month and she needs a new phone that will actually last long.

Iphone is too expensive for her, she only dials out and SMS.
no more SE phones, so X10/mini/pro/x8 won't be on her list.
Samsung and LG phones are poor quality and too many similar models.

She is looking for something like HTC widefire or similar. 3-3.5" screen, maybe android, wifi

Any suggestion / pic?

X10 Mini is a great little phone. Having a vendetta against a brand is silly - just get the one that best suits your needs.

Wildfire is OK, but X10 Mini is better value. Maybe consider HTC Tattoo if you want to stick with Android.

Or go with a basic LG GD58, that's a great basic phone IMO, and looks 'cute'

if she only needs to make phone calls and txt, does she really need a PDA type phone?

Blackberry 9700... or wait for the newer BB 9800 slider.. that looks baddass
or the new pearl...

^ she needs a phone that she can write chinese on the screen.

X10mini ringer is too soft, she can't hear anything if it's in her purse. I had a x10 for 2 weeks, she had heard enough complaints about the SE x10 series.

just get her an older motorola touchscreen they have a great chinese input system.
or even an iphone 3G. those are cheap as hell now and can do what she needs.

^ 3g is more expensive than HTC wildfire in the place I live.

How about an LG or Samsung smartphone? That's what I'm looking at for my wife. Her phone is dying, so time for a new one. She is not interested in a fully functional smartphone like Android, but realizes it's probably time to move on from keypad phones. But she just wants the very basics.

I have been looking at the LG GD510. It's pretty cheap (around $1100) and has a good interface. It has email, browser, etc. Only downside is it's 2G only, but they have similar phones that are 3G (but cost a bit more)

Just head to Broadway with her, and get her to try out a bunch of smartphones.

if she thinks the iphone is expensive, then she shouldn't be getting a smartphone. She should get something like a Bluestar s910 dual band from taiwan or Utec M696.

The iphone is almost twice as expensive as the most expensive Android phones right now.

And that when you buy an iPhone for "$199" you are actually paying around $800 for it over 3 years.

We got her a Samsung S5230 and she loves it. It does everything she wants - touch based, music, good messaging app, web browser for facebook, takes decent pics. All for $1050
