Nikon warranty question I recently picked up a Nikon 24-70 2.8 off of craiglist and at first it seemed ok but I've begun to notice that it seems quite soft wide open, especially at 70mm. So i'm thinking of sending it in to Nikon to get it looked at and calibrated. I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with Nikon service and if there was anything to look out for. I know that they have a repair facility in Richmond and does anyone know if I can just go there and drop it off or do I need to mail it in? (Saving on shipping would be great since its only in Richmond.) The lens is about 1 year old and I have a copy of the recipt so I think it should be covered under warranty but in the event its not, does anyone know how much it would cost to get it calibrated out of pocket? Thanks! |
Nikon warranty is only for original purchaser. Contact them, I've always just sent products via various shipping methods for repairs. if it's back/front focus, i'd just use the in camera calibration if it's available on your camera body |
You can drop it off in person at the Richmond location. But if it's something they can't fix, they'll have to send it off else where. |
Thanks good to know that I can drop it off with them. I'll try my luck with the warranty repair part, if I cant get it past them I dont really mind paying to get it right. Unfortunately I dont have the in camera calibration on the D90. :( Thanks |
Just walk in and drop it off. They do minor repairs but from my experience can be very slow (2~3 weeks or longer). You'll be ok with the warranty as long as: - the original owner never registered the lens with Nikon - the original owner never took the lens in for servicing - you have a copy of the receipt showing the correct serial number That's from my experience dealing with Nikon Canada. Others may vary. |
One more thing: Is it a Canadian market lens? If not, Nikon Canada will not touch it even if you offer to pay for the servicing. |
can someone give me the contact information for Nikon in Richmond? I want to get my pop up flash looked at on the d90 |
My lens is a Canadian market lens (made sure of that) it was purchased at Broadway camera. Nikon Service Vancouver 5-13511 Crestwood Place Richmond, B.C. V6V 2E9 Telephone; (604) 276-0648 Fax: (604) 276-0873 |
