Deciding whether to buy a used 1997 Cadillac Catera

Is the 1997 Cadillac Catera a good used car buy? Why or why not? Is the 1997 Cadillac Catera reliable? Is maintainence expensive for the 1997 Cadillac Catera? Are there any inexpensive garages that maintain the 1997 Cadillac Catera?

Don't bother. For the price get something better and more reliable. The costs of repairs is rediculous and the value blows on these.

Weird you mentioned "1997 Cadillac Catera" 4 times in your post lol. It is almost seems like you wrote the body of the text then pasted 1997 Cadillac Catera all over it.

Also, why would you want THAT car?

EuroRepresent 07-13-2010 03:31 PM

Was looking at one back in 2008. Ended up buying a 1996 Infiniti I30. What a great and a reliable V6 engine. I suggest you get one of those!

Great68 07-13-2010 03:33 PM

All mid sized sedans of that era produced by GM were total garbage.

project car?

Great68 07-13-2010 03:39 PM

Hahahaha:

"In its 3.0 L form, this engine was notable for recalls of all units installed in Cadillac Cateras due to timing belt tensioner bearing failures, which could cause catatrophic damage to the engine because of its interference design."

Damn, and our family almost got one of these in the 90s.

No,

Basically an Opel Omega with cadillac badges (GM V Platform)

The Malibu is based off GM's N-Body platform, shared with Pontiac Grand-Ams and Oldsmobile Aleros.
