How long to drive from North Van to Maple Ridge?

Hi all,

Im gonna test drive it tomorrow..

BUT, if anyone has a rough idea how long it will take to drive from North Vancouver to Maple Ridge(golden ears bridge area) during the week to arrive in maple ridge at around 730am for a new job i was hired for?

I know from going to bcit that there is no traffic from N. Van. to BCIT...but im not sure about the further than that.

Is the mary hill bypass backed up Eastbound badly in the morning. I was thinking:

HWY1, to 7B(mary hill bypass), to HWY7 to maple ridge?

or would it be better to take that transit?(and which transit)

i only need to do it for a month or two, then ill be living out there

ive been driving to British Properties for the past 2 weeks for work from the port mann, leaving at 6 i can get up into british properties to the house were building by 645, port mann is the biggest slowdown at that time, the rest moves pretty smoothly

LiquidTurbo 07-13-2010 03:32 PM

Try Google Maps Directions.

c3m 07-13-2010 03:44 PM

Eastbound Highway 1 is not bad in the morning but only if there's no accident.
You'll be screwed if there's an accident on either side.

AM730 and AM1130 radio are your friends in the morning commute.

jpark 07-13-2010 04:12 PM

about 30-40mins with average speed WITHOUT traffic

Hondaracer 07-13-2010 04:19 PM

google maps directions really dont do shit because traffic can add 10-45 minutes on the routes they give.

Ch28...you also get a  if you think google maps/mapquest is good for anything besides judging travel Km's and directions. I know how to fucking get there...

google maps/mapquest says it takes 38 minutes to drive from langley...across the portman...then to north vancouver..... I WOULD LOVE to see you do that drive in 38 minutes in the morning.

Spaceship_coupe 07-13-2010 08:39 PM

Depending on where in North Vancouver you are coming from it can take anywhere from 45 mins to 1h 15mins. As mentioned by c3m, am730 is the station to listen to regarding the slowdowns enroute. It takes me about 25 mins to get from the Superstore in North Van to Burnaby/New West area leaving North Van at 8am.

Go yuo!!!!!!1111oneone :troll:

Tegra_Devil 07-14-2010 08:54 AM

FYI. it takes 40 minutes cruising with the flow of traffic...coming back...well thats a hell of a lot longer

Inaii 07-14-2010 09:08 AM

Why wouldn't you just take hastings to barnet and go out that way?

To get to Hastings, he'd already be on Hwy 1, then he'd have to exit and contend with all the lights. Barnet sure, no problem but then the lights through Port Moody and around Coq. Centre are a pain.

Personally, I'd rather cruise down the freeway, drinking my coffee, take United to Mary Hill, more coffee, then down Lougheed. A bit longer but way less stop and go.

I commute from Lougheed (near Riverview) to Hwy 1, down Westview, to Pemberton. On call 24/7 but if I leave at 8:15 I get there at 9:00.

Nate, your 40 minute trial run is about average for that time of day, heading East.

Tegra_Devil 07-27-2010 08:15 PM

ya, it isnt bad of a cruise..40 minutes is for me sitting exactly 10 over the speed limit the whole way there...i have never hit slow traffic from hwy 1, mary hill, to hwy 7.

and a bonus is that if mary hill or hwy 7 is backed up...i just cruise to langley and take the golden ears. which i have done before and that drive is only 35 minutes at 10 over the speed limit

i generally cruise back at around 6pm from maple ridge to north van...and it is the same smooth traffic heading back(40 mins)! i love it...i dont see why people complain of traffic in vancouver ;)

Funny, funny.

You said you might move to Ridge? Just wait til you have to head West during rush hour for whatever reason. You'll get to sit in that nice, long line of traffic like the rest of the schmucks that live in the 'burbs.

hahaha...maybe one day if i can talk my fiancee into it...

would like to further my career with maple ridge fire and rescue...so we shall see

I live in Pitt Meadows, work all over the Lower Mainland... the last three weeks have been mostly in North Van (Dollarton Hwy.). Most days have been going toward the end of the morning rush, and I'm looking at about 45 minutes. Heading east should be well under that. Give yourself a full hour and you should be fine (there are plenty of places to stop for a coffee if you get to the area early).

Keep in mind the new speed zones and the fact that fines are doubled in work zones!

And no, Barnet won't be any faster... it's shorter on the map, but in addition to all the lights, there's also construction all over the place, especially for several blocks either side of Coquitlam Center.

Another option, if you're going to the area around the GEB, is to just take the freeway out over the Port Mann, then exit at 192nd St. and head over the GEB.

lol, i used to live in langely and drove to lions bay(sea 2 sky) for work 4 years ago...now that SUCKED!

fliptuner 07-28-2010 10:16 AM

I'm not dissing you Jonathan, I hate PoCo -> N. Van but it's about as far East as I'm willing to go. I can only imagine if you had to drive in to Vancouver.

Langley to Lions Bay....uh, yeah, pretty self-explanitory.

The worst daily commute I heard of was friend's GF. She lived in Deroche and worked in UBC......doing an internship.

Used to drive from Langley to Capilano College (now University) back in the day. And that was before the new, "improved" 200th St/Hwy 1 interchange was in place. Not fun at all. There was a reason why I moved to Coquitlam while I was working in Vancouver. :lol

donjalapeno 07-28-2010 07:01 PM
