is resonator delete illegal in BC?

is deleting the resonator illegal in BC?

i know moding muffler and cat is illegal but what about the resonator?

A vehicle will be rejected if the muffler is missing, but not the resonator according to the inspection standards. The resonator will only result in a rejection if it is leaking, patch affixed other than by weld.

by definition, what is the difference between a resonator and a muffler?don't they both kinda do the same job?

Serious question.

I don't think these an actual answer to that question. Some automotive technical materials say the mufflers come after resonators while others state that the opposite is true. The definition of what an exhaust system should be and consist of in the MVA is about as clear as mud though and extremely outdated anyway I guess it doesn't really matter.

so its not illegal to remove it ?

BallPeenHammer2 07-18-2010 08:29 PM

should not be. Resonators do not affect emmissions. As far as exhaust modifications go, I believe it has to be uunder a certain decible level at a specific rev range of the vehicle.
Also, can't be too big, sticking out of the bumper too much, etc.

BTW, Resonators help minimize exhaust noise. Mufflers do the same, but in a more complex way.

resonators are further up in the midpipes. the mufflers are after the rear axle. both reduce exhaust noise.
