gotta go over our coastal mountains for that kinda stuff

Kelowna would still be your best bet,
but there are acres and acres of plain areas in Langley that can somewhat resemble the picture.

Canada's only desert is in Oosoyos. You may find something like that up near Lillooet tho.

Otherwise you're looking at Eastern Washington/Idaho or California.

the Kamloops/Ashcroft/Cache Creek region (Thompson) is more desert than even Kelowna/Vernon (Okanagan) I believe. Going by the number of films which have been shot in the region for its desert look: much of the Mexico scenes for the A-Team movie, the Mexico scenes for Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, Afghanistan for Afghan Luke (still being filmed), Kenya for the opening scenes of Shooter, The desert planet with lakes of algae for Battlestar Galactica, and so on.

the Canadian Special Forces unit JTF-2 also has been training in Kamloops because the climate, geography, geology, etc are some of the closest they've found in Canada to those in Afghanistan.

Cache Creek, for sure. Was at Ashcroft (Eagle Motorplex) a few weeks ago. Man, it's hot up there. Semi-arid desert.

Are you drunk? Desert landscapes in the fuckin burbs of Lower Mainland? Seriously, are you serious?

Tiny rocks at a play ground? So you are going to steal a childs play area? What the fuck this has to be fake. Go to a fuckin landscape center!

Go to one of the many gravel pits in Coquitlam, Langley etc..
They look like deserts and have scrubby plants growing in them.
Used them many times for filming desert scenes in.

Off the top of my head, I know there are old abandoned pastures or fields that people just don't care about. Don't know if they're private property or not.

I don't know how to link using earth view, but you can try look around Fraser Highway, closer to Surrey.
