Using wheel cleaner to degrease/cleanse car I picked up some Auto Glym wheel cleaner from CDN tire and was testing the cleansing factor on my old sideskirts, and the grease marks and tar that has been there for over a year just disappeared! I was very happy to see this happen because now I'm thinking I can finally get rid of all the dirt off my paint. I have a matte/satin paint job so I cant use most of the cleaning products off the shelf from the automotive stores since they're all formulated to bring out gloss and I can't have that. I have tried however the other car washes available to me and none of them worked for shit, even a massive dose of Dove dish soap which is supposedly the preferred method for stripping off old wax didn't work whatsoever. So now I'm thinking if it would be ok for me to use the Auto Glym wheel cleaner to finally cleanse my paint. Method I'm thinking off just to be safe is obviously do it panel by panel first, and also hose the car down so it's wet before doing any of this. what you guys think ? I know it may sound crazy, but keep in mind that I've been searching for a solution for over a year now with no sucess, these satin matte finishes are hard to maintain. I know the vinyl wraps are supposedly easy, but the actual paint is a different story. |
The AG Wheel Cleaner, although not designed for paint, may work as its just a myriad of detergents. If it won't harm the clearcoat on wheels, it should be ok on paint although its a rather expensive way to wash your car. |
^ thanks man, and yea like I told you in my PM's, I'm desperate for a solution, I still have stains from over a year ago on my car that I wasn't able to get off. I will do some further testing on other parts I'm not using on my car to see what happens just to make sure. One test I did to see how much residue it leaves, is I had my gf spray both of my hands with it and then I tried washing my hands, it took a good 5 minutes of rubbing with dish soap for my hands to be completely clean. So it seems the formula is pretty tacky, I'm gonna need to really take my time making sure it's completely off my paintwork once it's done it's job of cleaning, the last thing I want is to have it bake into the paint in this sunshine. |
how do you protect your matte finish? is there some sort of special wax? |
I'm curious how you go about protecting it as well |
sealant? the AG wheel cleaner is like $14-15 after taxes a bottle i think it'd be insane to wash ur entire car with it i was only able to do 3 cars 12 wheels and im down to like 1/4 of a bottle |
the AG is on sale at CDN tire right now for $9 ! this is just a temporary solution until I go have my car detailed at Autowerks right before the RS meet. but long term I have to buy the whole set of Swiss Wax stuff, they carry a full line up of products for matte/satin finishes. Here's the direct link http://www.swissvax.ch/merchant.mvc?...ode=MATT-PAINT |

wat do u use tat stuff for? other than cleaning ur rims and plus u need to wear gloves, hella acidic |
I told you, it's NOT ACIDIC. It says on the bottle, "Acid-Free Wheel Cleaner" so it's not acidic. And I don't know how you wash your rims, but I don't get it on my hands at all - there's this thing called a brush lol. You can use it as an APC (expensive APC...) or to clean metal/paint as above. I use it for my tailpipes and extremely stubborn stains. Also for the wheel wells sometimes, but I prefer Powermax diluted lightly for that. |
hahahahahahahaha  shit i burst out laughing read ur comments lol i dont know AG wheel cleaner it does say corrosive or some shit like that, has a corrosive sign or sth on the bottle or toxic? i dunno therefore i thought its acidic so u sayin i can touch it with my hand without worrying about it? i use my toothbrush...........lol jk |
its non acidic but that doesnt mean it isnt toxic for you to breathe in. if you breathe in a mist of it, it aint gonna be nothin nice! i dont use gloves when i use cwc, and i dont really find that it leaves any residue on my hands nor does it dry them out or anything harsh |
