Audi reveals new A7 Sportback

Searched up A7, nothing came up

Audi has revealed full details of what will be the 35th model in its current line-up, the A7 Sportback.

The four-door, four-seater executive hatchback will take the fight to Mercedes' stylish CLS in the confusingly named "four-door coupé" class.

First seen as a concept at the 2009 Detroit motor show, the A7 has been developed to slot into Audi's line-up between the A6 and A8 executive saloons as a style-led alternative to luxury motoring.

From launch it will be available with two petrol and two diesel engines and with front-wheel drive or Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system, the latter teamed with a seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch gearbox.

At launch all four engines will use a V6 configuration, with 2.8-litre (201bhp) and supercharged 3.0-litre (295bhp) petrol models joined by a 3.0-litre diesel that is available with two different power outputs (201bhp and 241bhp)
depending on whether the car is two- or four-wheel drive.

All engines get Start-stop technology to boost their green credentials; the front-wheel drive A7 3.0 TDI manages 53.3mpg and 139g/km of CO2.

Novel touches for this class of car include an automatic spoiler that rises at motorway speed, and a head-up display able to project vehicle information such as speed and economy onto the windscreen. A navigation plus upgrade for the satnav also helps to maximise the car's economy by identifying and avoiding particularly twisty roads that would require excessive gear changes.

Despite being almost identical in size to Audi's A6 saloon, the new A7 will be built on an all-new platform and make extensive use of aluminium in its body.

The A7 will be available to order from August 16 with prices starting at £42,925. Deliveries will begin in early 2011.
