Need i7 build, 1.5k-2k
 

Need your help fellas, anyone got a i7 setup within $1.5k - $2k range??

Computer is gonna be used for moderate gaming / media creation.

I checked out the popular G73jh but it's plagued with tons of issues and the G73Jw has no confirmed release date.

edit: will use monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speaker from previous setup so basically I just need the tower itself.

I tried their pre-configged but I was hoping to get more suggestions other than what's already listed. Besides, some folks here have more knowledge as to which brand or model are better :)

I'll play around with the NCIX configurator again when I have some more time.

i think SSD + WD green is the way to go
and also a P183 case with noctua fans
maybe even a corsair PSU

depending on what u plan to do with it, i usually buy cheaper but good brand mobo/ram

yes, go with the SSD drive for OS and installed apps/games..

tack on another $350 for a 128GB SSD drive

Personally I really want to get the G73Jh... it's the perfect or ideal machine for my needs and I don't need to shell out for the windows OS software, the wireless card nor card reader :( ANYWAYS, do give me your feedback on what I have listed and if you have a better recommendation please let me know as well but give me a reason as to why it is better...

128 GB ssd is nice and read/write faster than 64 GB version but I don't think I am willing to pay $350 for 128 GB? The SSD will be for OS + primary applications and only those. Games will be installed on the samsung 1tb drive (i heard it's faster than WD Black, but have not verified that yet).

Yeah. No need to dump so much money on an SSD. A 64GB is enough for the OS and apps.

yeah, i am only using SSD for win 7 and applications such as adobe photoshop... games don't need a crazy fast harddrive, minimal gain in performance i'd think.

No one talked about my choices of components... :( did I make the right pick or is there a better choice? My other thing is will I need a dedicated sound card? I never had one so I can never tell the difference in quality.

I don't think you'll need a dedicated sound card. The onboard audio these days are more than adequate for most purposes. I'd say that audiophiles may be the only group of people that would dish out the extra bucks for a discrete sound card these days.

The components look pretty standard for an i7 setup. Perhaps the only modification I would make is to remove the DVD writer as I'm sure the Blu Ray reader would perform the same function. However, DVD burners are only about $20 so really, it doesn't make much difference price wise.

SSD is personal preference. I find 64GB too small for an OS partition (I just did a clean install and after installing my required apps, etc, it's used up almost 50GB) Remember that SSD's need at least 10% of the total disk space free for optimal performance.

However, if the laptop is your ideal machine, you should just go with that. No point getting a machine that's just going to sit at home unused.

I'd pay more and buy Intel Core i7-875K

i wouldn't bother with the g73jw anyways.. only a 460m vid card.. for the pricing.. it's not worth it

I probably won't have that many program installed on the SSD, plus, 120gb is still quite expensive :P i am pretty much set on the parts if no other recommendation is given

regarding g73jw, likely to be a 460 or 470 and the cooling has been tweaked but the reason i brought it up is because i was hoping that the Jw has fixed all the Jh problems and provided that it'll be released within a month but chances are it'll be out in q4 as Jh is still in demand
