Shaw > Telus

silva95teg 08-05-2010 07:39 AM

They are doing upgrades to vdsl in a lot of areas, so people are being moved off a section of ports that are being upgraded. That or you have line issues and may need work done. Easiest thing is to go on to the online chat and talk to an agent. Last time i did it took under a minute to get someone.

so my 12-15mbps plan has two ip's
only one ip seems to be consistently affected...(goes down every 2-3 weeks for dayss)

is taht telus problem or on my end?

Edison_Chen 08-05-2010 04:14 PM

My internet and tv was down around 10 ish.. for about 2 hrs and I have Shaw..

one6o4 08-05-2010 04:20 PM

My dad uses Telus and he says it's completely shit. Disconnects, downtime is ridiculous. I use shaw myself though. Shaw is great - rarely any downtime or anything

Anyone else notice the irony of saying "go chat online while the internet is down?" That's like when a troubleshooting guide says "if you are having problems connecting, please check out our handy FAQ at http://www.howtogetonlinewhenyou'reoffline.com"

Shaw's been rock-solid for me for years. Only had two brief outages in the five years I've been in this place (well, aside from a couple times the bill didn't get paid...

Get NOVUS lol.

bengy 08-05-2010 05:17 PM

What do you expect. Telus is still using telephone lines for ADSL which is a dieing technology. Until they roll out fiber to your house, like they do in Alberta, they will continue to suck... ( depending on where you live ). They have been rolling out fiber to some distribution boxes all over the city, but the copper that goes to your house is still the weakest link.

The majority of the distribution boxes in the lml have been upgraded and now contain the ports for the dsl2+/vdsl. Copper is a weak link and is no longer used in new construction. Shaws coax is copper too though.

And to Graham, yes it is difficult to use the online help if your internet is down, I meant that post for the people having intermittent trouble or for those that have access to a different internet connection.

To the poster that said he is losing one of his ips, it sounds like a telus problem, but maybe try a different router?

My Internet always turns off around 4 in the morning. Coincidence anyone?

Just a little bit of economics guys. If all of us switched our services to Shaw Communication, then Shaw can just do what they want (mostly negative) in terms of customer support, product pricing, and many other services. Because if there is not a worthy company in the cable/internet/phone markets competing with them, Shaw will not have to worry about customers switching to the next alternative anymore. I know some of you said Telus is not too reliable, but Shaw is definitely not perfect too.

^lmao. I like how he tries so hard to explain simple facts.

Why don't you analyze it using Porter's Five Forces for us as well?

mmmk 08-06-2010 12:57 PM

i've used shaw and telus before in more than 1 house.

telus d/c's sooooo often. shaw d/c sometimes, but once in a blue moon.

Mr.Jay 08-06-2010 01:03 PM

how ur Telus service is depends on who came and installed it.

If you got a legit Telus guy your service most likely works without issue

If you got a contractor chances of your service working 100% flawlessly are I would say 40%

Shaw/Telus it just doesnt matter, its all depending on who comes by to set it up for you.

Also like to say a bunch of the time the issue isnt with the Telus service itself but rather the shitty wiring people have in their homes

G 08-06-2010 02:59 PM

Not being a racist but I always hated calling Telus in regards to my internet fucking up....99% of the time it turns out to be someone on the other line that has a heavy accent that I can't understand and makes me 100% more annoyed that I can't understand, or they can't understand what my problem is......

/rant.
