HID Projector Question

So I am doing a retrofit into my car using E46 M3 Headlights, and I am having a hard time finding the 3" chrome shrouds. I was wondering what the difference is between the larger 3" lenses, and the smaller 2.5" lenses. I have a line on a set of 2.5" lenses with 2.5" shrouds.

Do the 2.5" lenses perform the same as the 3" lenses?
