Help with HID install on a 1990 Integra

recently i purchased a set of HID KIT for my car.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...tegra/HID2.jpg

as you see in the pictures, i think i have plugged it in corrcectly. in the second picture, only the smaller bulbs lights up. when i switch the highbeam, the small bulb only dimms.

i also tried to switch the low/high positives (the blue cap where the headlight plugs into) still only the smaller bulb lights up, but it seems brighter then the original way. when i switched on the highbeam, the bigger bulb only flickers.

i know these works coz the guy tried it before i bought it. he also said that if i cant get it to work, i need to disable the DRL lights or use a relay to bypass it. i dont know how to do this. i tried to look for the DRL fuse, under the dash, but i cant find it. i looked over the internet, but it doesnt match my fusebox.. so im really stumped..

i hope you can help me out. im sure you have done some HID install on these integras.

THANX for any help.

Try to flip the plug that connects to the ballast the other way around (left side of your picture), even though the plastic connector looks as though it's not meant to fit that way.

I know it sounds weird, but give it a shot.

so right now the one thats plugged on the left of the ballast, switch to the right side? its not gona blow up the ballast or something, is it??

jtanner_ 08-08-2010 07:42 PM

No no I meant as in... It will plug into the same side of the ballast, but rotate the cable end 180 degrees so it would go in "upside-down". I hope that makes more sense...

your talking about the plug that NOT plugged in right now, on the right side of the ballast?

if you are, it only plugs in one way, theres a little notch that prevents you from plugging it in wrong way.

if your talking about the one thats plugged in on the left side, i can see if i can take it off and flip it..

jtanner_ 08-08-2010 07:56 PM

I am refering to the one that is not plugged in. Even with the notch you should be able to wedge it over. Do not remove the plug that is already in the ballast.

ok, i understand.. i will try that and see if it works...

it wont kill the ballast if i flipped the plug around?

jtanner_ 08-08-2010 08:00 PM

No it should not damage your ballast...

Ok, i tried what you said, flipped the plug around that goes into the ballast..

the HID bulb lights up, pretty bright.. but the ballast emmits a noise.. i thought maybe it needs to warm up or something.. let it run for about 30 secs but still making the noise... so i took it out..

its not suppose to make any noise... at least not to my knowledge..

lexluthor09 08-09-2010 01:54 PM

what kind of noise?
a buzzing/humming sound?
and it gets slightly quieter after warming up?

that's pretty normal/common on hids

FerrariEnzo 08-09-2010 02:21 PM

its a buzzing sound but it doesnt go away after about 30sec.. so i was worried and took it out

FerrariEnzo 08-09-2010 05:53 PM

so now after i installed both,

i followed what jatanner said.

my highbeam light in my instrument panel is on.. so i flicked it to see if i can turn it off.. it just stays on.. i noticed that the brightness of the light doesnt change when i flick the highbeam swtich on/off... ive done this like 4 times in a row.. the brightness stays the same...

something is really wrong..

oldsnail 08-09-2010 10:59 PM

i remembered when i did my 93 civic, it flickers and make a noise because of DRL.. when i turn on my head lights, the sound goes away.

are they h4 bulbs? just curious and a little lazy to look it up.. but... without the relay... you wouldn't be able to have both high beams or low beams...just one or the other.
so maybe thats the problem for not seeing the bulb turn off?
had h4's installed on my GF's EL last year and needed the relay to have both high beams and low beams..
as for the buzzing... maybe yours buzz a little longer than 30 sec?

What vehicle was the HID kit used in before? Integras should be positive switched with a common ground so the wires going to the blue plug should be like this:

I think there is a relay box for the DRLs behind the passenger side kick panel. Unplug or cut the wires. A relay harness would be preferred when using HIDs to get direct battery power and avoid overvolting.
