I must see it, too. But like all other Buddhist traditions, I must walk to the holy place. Driving there would be a total insult to the great one. j/k I'll probably go on Wednesday. Namo Amida Butsu |

Also, if any of you actually go before I do on Wednesday, please let me know via this thread how it went. Parking, line ups, what to avoid, etc. Much appreciated. |

From what i've heard, it's a pretty big event. They have vietnamese singers there performing also. |
Where is it? Google street view doesn't show up any kinda monastery http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=2623+272+Street,+Aldergrove,+BC+V4W+3N6&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=52.240038,113.466797&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=2623+272+St,+LANGLEY,+Greater+Vancouver+Regional+District,+British+Columbia+V4W+3K2,+Canada&ll=49.05047,-122.470093&spn=0.01066,0.027702&z=16&layer=c&cbll=49.05032,-122.470673&panoid=EEDGBxLtzhRgFP3wUQXIIA&cbp=12,336.58,,0,5 |
^The monastery is new, so I don't think google has updated yet. The temple in Burnaby took over this church for their new location. I went there with my parents on Sunday, really nice to see the statue and the food is good. |
It's a Buddhist monastery, so it's stealth. Actually, if you zoom in on that tree and go a little to the left, You'll se it. J/k..............what teaoh said. |

I just went holy crap i came there around 11 huge line up already and they were giving out tickets around 130 ish but i think they only gave out 100 or so tickets lol kind of sad i didn't get my ticket !! D= people kept budging in and all ! then after you get your ticket you have to line up again to buy the pendent. I was kind of sad I didn't get mine I'm going again tmr early !! some people go everyday to get more and more ! if you beg them they might have slight chance to get two because you know you're already there and all. and you have to be sitting down where the fence is in order to get your ticket they're very harsh about it. |
Went yesterday around noon with mom...pretty cool... so many lining up for the pendant!! So didn't bother looking at that...might try to go back there earlier another day. |
Pulled an all nighter last night for this! 6am...Only a few people there. 7am looks like around 10 women...7:30am alrite...There's 25 people there now. I was watching Entourage in my car while waiting. Anyways got in the lineup and I swear to god...The 25 people in front of me turned into 40+ Vietnamese women who are friends with each others...Btw the lineup was around 300+ people and only 200 got the tickets for the pendant sale. Also it was 100% Vietnamese there. If you want a pendant then come at 7:30-8:30...After that you get either the shitty ones that no one likes or you don't get one at all. If there's 25 ahead of you...At the end it'll be around 50+ so go early and reserve your spot. Edit: Turns out We're the lucky ones. Vietnam, Australia, Toronto + everywhere else it has traveled. They only offered 500 pendants while Vancouver gets a special 1,000 pendants. Also each monastery they used on the tour gets 300-400 pendants for the people who work + volunteer there. Also heard that people in toronto paid $1,000 for the $108 pendants on the final day you can get them. Also, people from the states have headed up here to try there luck before it reaches down to cali. As you know, Cali's got a huge population and I doubt 500 will be anywhere near enough for them. |
my mom went again yesterday and today to try and get one for herself.. dam i hope she manage to since she had to skytrain down there and its a far ass journey for her |
I don't give a rat's ass about the pendant. What are the line ups like just to see the statue? Can I like touch it? Lick it? |
You can't touch it, there's no line ups when I went. Just walked straight in, but this was in the evening. |

Perhaps :p |
You stand around 2 meters away from the statue. Can't touch it unfortunetly and no line ups whenever...9-2 = bad parking 2-6 = good parking 6-8 = bad parking... |
Wow, I feel much better. I may take my mom to see it, now that I know the line up to see it is not bad. Thanks, guys....... |

What do the pendants look like? Someone mentioned food? I am guessing it was mostly vegetarian? |
^From what I was told, its just the stone without any engravings on it. The food is good, and vegetarian only. Theres Pho, subs, deserts, and quite a bit of other food. If you're down there, I recommend to try out the food. |
