new PC or new Apple Cinema Display?

I want to get the new 27" Apple Cinema Display ($1,000 usd), but it seems like I can buy a i7 with decent graphic card at that price. What would you pick?

current setup: E7200, 4gb, 128gb SSD, 9600GT, 24" Benq G2400

Are you the next Hyde or something?

asian_XL 08-12-2010 08:47 PM

???

SkinnyPupp 08-12-2010 08:57 PM

Buy what you want, nobody cares what you plan to spend your next $1000 on

^ I guess we're not allowed to ask for opinions on a forum.

Anyways, If it were me I'd get a computer. Even though i actually work for an apple reseller, i can't justify spending that much on a monitor.

I have not yet seen the rear panel of the new monitor, not sure how it will connect to a PC and xbox360s.

Sorry that rant was uncalled for. It just seems like you and hyde are always asking what you should buy next... and then never buy anything :lol

It's more than likely gunna be like the current ones, so it'll have apples mini display port. To connect to anything other than apple products you'll need to buy an adapter, they make mini display port to dvi adapters for $35

although it was a big surprise that the new apple mac minis actually included a hdmi input, so who knows.

don't buy adapters from them, buy from monoprice or dealextreme

so grumpy ;)

and hey he did end up buying the SSD from that last thread on SSD vs video card.

I say get the monitor. If you're going to sink that much money into something, sink it into something that'll stay useful to you for longer and won't be outdated so quickly. That nice big IPS panel will last you for years and through multiple systems.

Also, multi monitor setups ftmfw. I just went dual recently and I freaking love it, especially for the kind of work I do. Even for recreational use it's great. IM, email, etc in one window, browser in the other. Or keep your IM running on one window while playing games on the other.

Wait til your computer becomes unbearably slow and behind the curve before you blow a grand on a whole new system.

Are they the same displays that are being used in the new iMacs?

We have the 27" ones at work and they're beautiful

big regret on buying SSD,
should have spent the $ on something else

Jeremy617 08-17-2010 08:24 AM

Might as well wait for the 3008wfp 30" to go on sale again for $1300ish if you're gonna throw that much down on a monitor.

2560x1600 is incredible

Why the regret on the SSD? I've never heard of anyone regretting the switch except maybe because they're used to have a much bigger system drive?

!MiKrofT 08-22-2010 09:42 PM

Unless he bought something huge and expensive like a 256 or 512gb SSD.

gilly 08-25-2010 03:58 PM

ur cpu isnt that bad. just upgrade ur gfx card.

striderblade 08-25-2010 10:38 PM

If you're want a 30" beside dell. You can look into this.
http://www.anitec.ca/product/729772/...ack-vm617a8aba

Review said is better than dell 3008 or even the up coming dell u3011. Thought this is just a pre-review base on written spec. We still need to wait for dell u3011 to be release to do a side by side comparison. Both are the first 30" IPS panel monitor. And knowing dell, their price range for the new 3011 might cost around 1,800 to even 2,000. And the HP is only 1309.

i would get dell's IPS monitors. the CD's are just a bit too much
