Dealerships for DEAL?

Hey guy! I gotta get a compact car for commute soon; Mazda 2, Yaris, Fit, Accent etc. Which dealerships are more willing to lower their prices? I'm about to just go in, tell them up front if they can give me a great deal I can buy the same day right now, and get a deal from their manager.

I worked retailed before and when salesperson meet someone that they know will grind, the salesperson become defensive and less motivated to make the sale. So IMO, less BS more $$.

Thanks you any comments guys!

Oh, is CR-Z any good and am I missing any options?

So basically you're saying whoever has the most mark up wins?

I know for a fact my suzukis have more mark up than Simons Civics at Honda... will you come buy from me?

You shoudl purchase a car based on your needs, and if the price suits your budget. Every brand is different, and all the pricing strategies are different.

Go to Maple Ridge Chrysler. They have by far the most markup in B.C. Test drive a car, negotiate, then try and leave and say you're buying a car down the street instead. Their last resort is literally giving you bottom line price before you walk.

This is not true for most cases. One of two things will actually happen, the sales person will begin to move to your side, and hope the manager accepts the deal so he can make a buck, and the manager will want you to get the hell out of his hair so he'll just say screw it, give him the price he wants. OR the manager will not waste his time and just tell you to be reasonable or leave.

When the sales staff where I work approach me and say "The customer just wants to know the best price", every single time with few exceptions, I tell them the best price is already in the window.

It is not until the customer gives a reasonable offer that I will even give them the time of day. In car sales, you will have a hard time finding a sales person, or manager that will give up a "best price" so easily.

sorry to thread jack, but lets say a person is buying a pre-owenedcar with a sticker price of 16.5k at the dealer.
if there are no negotiations, what would be the final price of the car that the buyer has to pay?
is it simply 16.5 + HST?

Differen't dealers have different fees.

We charge
395 doc
299 Security
5 per tire
100 ac

Some are taxable some aren't

each place is different though. A dealership without fees just ads it to the price of the vehicle anyway

Go for a test drive on a CR-Z. Wont hurt, right!.

Okay so the so called "MSRP" can vary depending on dealers? I thought MSRP is national wide more or less and any negotiation just start from there; while markup and profit margin is incorporated into the MSRP. Given the market I have yet to hear dealers adding a margin ABOVE MSRP, well except for fees which may differ as you said.

There are FOB, LDP, and Profit Margin equation for bottom line to pay the people and the bills while still be remained in business. Not that I want them to close down and salespeople to lose their jobs, but on either side of the counter, everyone just wants more money in their pocket.

You can sell for higher and sell fewer, or sell more for less but make a faster turn over. All I am hoping for is to find such dealers, and you bet that would be the one I will always go back to. Not that I'm trying to be unreasonable, but I gotta watch my own wallet because they are also watching theirs. At the end of the day, it's business; when both party reaches a win-win situation, that's good business.

Thanks for your comments!

So does anyone have good experiences with dealerships? Would Richmond Auto Mall be a good place to shop, given their fame and competition, do they give better deals (I am well aware of markups; I am talking about a low final price, I am not just looking for the biggest deduction from a bigger price tag. I thought that much was basic understandings.)

Thank you! :)

agree... buy a car on what you want/need from the car and not from how much discount they will give you.

+1

otherwise you will end up dislike the car and either suffer to drive or sell it for more lose...

The vehicle you are looking for is the most less profit car in the new car market. You sure can grind some little discount but don't expect too much. Test drive them all and pick up the one you like the most. Richmond auto mall would be a nice place to test drive all of them without driving around.
Also if you are going to finance or lease, watch out the rate.

No. But it verys for different brands. You specified several different cars, they all have different msrp. I'm saying every differen't brand has differen't mark ups.

I'm not even gonna bother with the rest of your post. I will just say this being 100% honest with you. You are looking at entry level vehicles with little to no mark up in them. There is only so much the dealer can deduct from the price before losing money. In Honda's I belive its around 800-900, Mazda is around 1000, Suzukis are about 1200. If you go in an make an offer of 1500 less, I'm sure you'll get a "best price" right away.

The best thing to do is educate yourself. Check out the websites for current rebates/cash back deals. Make sure you know about every single promotion. It wouldn't hurt to visit several dealerships on the same vehicle, and let them knwo you're doing this.

If you tell the sales person you're comparing his Mazda3, to a Honda civic down the road, he won't beat the price, he will explain why the Mazda 3 is worth more and what makes it better than the civic. Now if you go to the mazda dealership and explain that you've dealt with a different mazda store before, and you were planning on going back there before making any final decisions, then the game changes. Since the vehicle is the same, you're now comparing service and price only. This will make it easier for the dealership to give you a better price.

With such little mark up, you won't find a new car dealership that isn't willing to drop the price to near cost. Just make an offer, on the vehicle you think is right for you, that you would feel confortable paying. And if they accept, they accept, if not, go from there. There isn't a secret way to get the best price, often if your offer is unreasonable, they will even whip out the cost sheets to show you.

Edit: Come buy a Suzuki SX4 if you want the best deals. We are closing and have nothing to lose lol, the regular $26,095 top Model with AWD is down to around $20,000, which is less than Suzuki will give us if we send it back. ;) just sayin

If you go in and are acutally ready to make a deal THAT DAY dealerships are always willing to do a deal. Personally I would wait for the new Ford Fiesta... But that's just my opinion.

I do autoplan for various dealerships including a Honda dealership, I took the 6spd manual CR-Z for a test drive today since it was a slow day.

To keep it simple the car does everything you need it too, but your going to need to drive it for yourself.

I was speaking to the owner of the dealership about the car and he was saying that there are only 500 CR-Z's made for the canadian market at this point. He also mentioned that most Honda dealerships are getting two cars and the busier dealerships like "Richmond Honda" are getting three cars. Has anyone else heard the same?

I dont know if thats going to make you go in any sooner but hopefully you will get a chance to drive one.

- I really liked the tach on the CR-Z i have never seen one like that before.

TheSalesman 08-16-2010 09:37 AM

All the cars you are looking at have almost no markup. If you wanted any of those cars, I don't care about giving the "best price" because its not much of a discount and I get paid the same anyways. Same with civics. There's very little room on those and I get paid a flat rate anyways. I don't think we give any discount on accents either on top of manufactures discount. Some dealers can give you a "bigger discount" but will charge you some other stuff at the end. If you don't want to pay any extra hidden fees then let me know. Everything is disclosed up front here.

Yc 08-16-2010 10:28 AM

my perspectives on dealers

even thou the mark up is really little, there should be a quota given by honda canada every month, and if the dealer meets the quota, there will be bonuses. So sometimes at the end of the month, if the dealer is very close in meeting the quota, like a car or two away, they are willing to lose some money on the car as long as their bonus is bigger than what they lose on the car.

i am not sure if its true but i can see this happening

falcon 08-16-2010 10:35 AM

You need to actually WORK at a dealership in sales before fully understanding how things work.

I don't know about the other guys, but at suzuki there aren't bonuses from the head office if we reach a certain amount, however there are punishments if we dont. So at the end of the month we will let a lot more slide.
