"Update Just a quick note: As of July 31st you cannot smoke or have a charcoal BBQ or fire of any kind in Vancouver parks or on the beaches. Please wait for the ban to be lifted before taking your grill out and about."

I was at Spanish Banks on Sunday and lots of people had charcoal bbq's going with no problems including my friends. Fire department was there, but no issues.

Really? For some reason I find charcoal is freaking way better x100. I used to BBQ with charcoal every week just in front of a small homemade BBQ. It takes 20x as long to cook but its way worth it IMO. Just the tenderness is different

I'm a charcoal guy as well but it's a bitch to light. I use propane for convenience but I still toss a few lumps of charcoal into the propane grill for flavour

please dont tell me this ban is on because they are afraid a forest fire will break out in the urban area, lol.

No offense to anyone particular, but it just seems like Vancouver is full of a bunch of really dumb people. They wouldn't have to ban this if people just smartened up. (the same people that think Stanley park is a huge forest).

If you have a fire anywhere, you should have a bunch of water, and maybe some fire suppression system. I remember as a kid going camping all the time, we always had a method to put out the fire properly. aka, water, stirr, more water, more stirring. And if its a backyard BBQ, just keep it away from your vynl siding on your house!

I'm 100% positive that if you have an extinguisher or big cooler of water, nobody is going to tell you that you cannot have a fire ...if they do, send them to me
