Travelling to Vegas So I'm going to Vegas on Saturday, and want to turn off all incoming calls from my phone but keep the data on. I tried going to call barring in my phone but it says barring not available. Anyone know why or how to block incoming calls? I have the Bold 9000 |
calls are nothing compared to data.. in Arizona i used my iphone for GPS and aroundme like maybe for a total of 15 minutes over 5 days, my bill was an extra $120 in roaming, calls made up like $4 of that |
every time i go on a trip, say somewhere in the states or eastern canada, i make sure i call rogers and get some long distance minutes as well as some sort of data package added so i dont get raped by their bullshit roaming charges. last time i went to vegas i got 40 minutes and i think i paid $10 to be able to use data without roaming charges. you will still get charged something like a $1/mb of data usage if i remember correctly. |
$10 for a month of $1/mb data in the US. That's gonna be a lot. |
For data on short trips, if you don't mind carrying an extra thing in your pocket, I suggest MiFi from Virgin Mobile. I think I bought the device off someone on CL Seattle for 100 bucks and every time I go to the US for more than 2 days, I just load 10 bucks on it and it's 100MB good for 10 days or 20 for 300MB for 30days. And I can share the same data with all my devices (cell, laptop and wife's iPad) |

why do u need to block incoming calls? just not answer them...u wont get charged |
Well that's the thing, last time I was in the states and just didn't answer the calls, I got charged for them because apparently even trying to get a hold of your phone going through other peoples network costs money. Does anyone know how to get call barring to work with the bold? |
If you're going to the states call your provider, have a US roaming and LD package put on your phone. When you get back have it removed. They'll pro rate it for the amount of time you are travelling. Data is WAY more expensive then phone calls while you're travelling. You're best bet is to just turn your phone off completely if you don't want to have a travelling plan put on it. |
If you go to the US a lot, buy a sim card for $50 and just use it everytime you go down there. |
