VGA output video cards.

Any suggestions? I'm buying an old sega blast city, and I need something with a vga output in a piece of shit 200 dollar computer. Do these still exist?

Manic! 08-20-2010 06:36 PM

Yes they do look here: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?minorcatid=108

But what interface do you need because that might be the tough part.

Meowjin 08-20-2010 06:37 PM

apparently the moniters on the blast city have a vga output. I will build a whole computer from scratch if I have to. I still have an old tower/ps I could use. Just need a mobo a cheap hard drive, and a processor.

VGA is 640x480. Any video card made in the last, oh, 20 years will output that resolution.

I'm not sure you know exactly what you are looking for though...

I'm guessing that what OP is referring to is the 15 pin Dsub female connection on the video card. (and I'm sure you knew that too SkinnyPupp ;) )

MajinHurricane: You looking for that for a PCI, AGP or PCI-e slot?

SkinnyPupp 08-20-2010 10:20 PM

I honestly didn't know he was referring to that

Meowjin 08-21-2010 03:24 AM

Actually I was.

Slot doesn't matter. It has to be powerful enough to run games on mame.

Also I'm checking out the cabinet this monday. I hope I do not have to replace the screen. or else this project is goign to get expensive.

hi guys,
i had the same problem and opened a thread a while ago on neo-arcadia.com(french speaking site) as Alien Soldier mentionned.
most of the "first gen blascitys(the ones with dipswitches for freq adjustment and no OSD) screens" are not compatible with the video signal output from the 360.
to bypass the problem i used a sega V2 naomi converter(i think the capcom converter would do the job as well):
-set the cab dipswitches to 31khz freq and imput signal to "jamma"
-plug the vga cable of the 360 to the converter (guess you can also plug the RCA audio connectors to it if your
blastcity is not equipped with the audio loom)
-connect the converter to jamma
and: VOILA!

unfortunately the brightness and focus will suffer a bit from such a funky hookup, and you might not be able to read some tiny fonts on some games, but it does the trick ,until you decide to change your screen or get another cab(i traded my blastcity for a trifreq egret2).

hope this would help,
cheers.
hmm, it's starting to sound easier to swap the moniter out. Especially if I'm using a mame emulator. I could probably sell the blast city pcb for some money too. Another issue right now, is getting the speakers to work with the computer. I might have to swap them out too.

SkinnyPupp 08-21-2010 04:09 AM

if I were you, I'd replace the monitor with a similar-sized LCD, and you can get away with very little in terms of the PC you'll need to run MAME.

Manic! 08-21-2010 06:14 PM

So your buying an old arcade cabinet and gutting it to make a mame system?

You need this videocard: http://www.ultimarc.com/avgainf.html

plus the adapter they sell.

Meowjin 08-22-2010 04:05 PM

Well see the condition of the cabinet first. I might have to replace the moniter anyways which isn't a bad thing, then I can get sf4 running on it and would have to run it at such a bad resolution.

Manic! 08-22-2010 04:38 PM

There is a complete MAME system with cabinet on craigslist right now for $900.

Meowjin 08-22-2010 04:48 PM

but it isn't a blast city.

Meowjin 08-24-2010 02:49 AM

things are starting to look good.

Many (most) DVI outputs will also do VGA with the appropriate adapter... the DVI connector DOES have the pins for it.

So this is what i'm getting.

400 dollars, not a bad price.
(not this exact unit, just a picture off google)

So far I'm going to need a jammaSD v2, and an arcadeVGA. I'm going to buy new buttons and a new joystick, and I might need to buy a kick harness. And for oldtimes sake I was looking at PCB's on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Street-Fighter-2...ht_1798wt_1242

Probably won't buy it though, I'm going to stick with a mame emulator.

underscore 08-24-2010 03:12 PM

that looks awesome, I want!

Meowjin 08-25-2010 12:25 AM

fuck someone cleaned out those things. When I went to go pay for mine someone had bought 10. The price was really good.

Meowjin 08-25-2010 12:56 PM

omg it doesnt fit in my doorway of my room!. I'm goign to die :(
