Do i need a high/low pass filter?

Hey,

I got a 2010 toyota 4runner with navi, and i already bought the sub+amp+wiring for it. Im wondering what else i need in order to install it, would i need a high/low pass filter? or can i just hook it up straight?

thankss

Look on the amp. There should be a switch for LPF or OFF. The amp will act as a crossover and send only low signals to the sub.

It would depend if your Navigation unit. You only need a high/low pass filter if

1. you don't have RCA outs in the unit
2. if you don't want to deal with running RCA cables all the way from the unit to your amp.

Do you mean HIGH/LOW convertor? Or were you wondering about the actual HIGH or LOW pass filter?

Most newer age amps have crossovers (HPF/LPF) built into them. Unless you have some stuff from 90's you should be okay.

As for the convertor, not all amps have them built in. So you would need to look on the amp itself to see if it has one. If not, then you can buy one then tap into the speakers for the signal and run the RCA's to the amp.

High/low converters can be purchased at any of the sponsor's shops. They generally run from about $40 and go well beyond $200 for an Audiocontrol unit.
