I got it off ebay for $15. Been using it for a year and not even 20% used yet.

I used to use gatsby too but its too hard to wash off and its overrated. There are better brands (ie. the one i said) if you do a bit more of google-ing.

my comparison is the Uno (red) and the Gatsby (grey).
i prefer uno over gatsby because the hold stays longer if you arent using hairspray. you can get a more fluffier or chunkier look than the gatsby (grey), depending on how long you mess it up.

i suggest if you choose gatsby first, maybe when you run out, give uno a try. (or other way around)

even though these brands are import.. they are still in the lower end of the spectrum, athough they are better than any supermarket stuff we have here. its just that..they are the better products of the lower end, pretty much.

Hmmm, after flipping through the gatsby site, it seems there is also something called "moving rubber" series.

Anybody try this out yet?

With my motorcycle helmet, I'm just worried whatever I'll wear will come and and gross up the inner liner.
The restyling part sounds rather appealing, there's no way I can style my hair, and put on a helmet and expect it to stay intact.
Restyling would be nice, then I can just fluff up my hair after I pull the helmet off I guess?


iam_dan, that Uno stuff sounds rather intriguing.
I'm really not used to having hair longer than 1/2", and despite it killing looks, I've been thinning it out for comfort. Something to fake volume would be cool.

My experience, gatsby isn't really good for hair...
I'm using redken right now but not sure if its really good for the hair either.

If you find Moving Rubber to be too 'gunky' especially when it comes to washing out the next day, you might want to try Gatsby Perfect Hold Wax instead. It comes off easily. I use that, and finish it off with Technical Design Clay to define the spikes. A little goes a long, long way with that stuff, one small jar will last forever.

what about other colors? is it true for other colors as well? im looking to buy the gray one (grunge mat) to put finishing touches to my hair (fortify my spikes).

theres a gatsby product meant to specifically remove other gatsby hair wax stuff, you can get it in japan in like Lawsons though i dont remember what it was called.

your hair bound to get destroyed if you dont wash it off properly or sleepign with the wax on (thats fucking gross imo wtf does that). thats why you should get hair treatment like once every half a year even though its kind of gay.

the best japanese hair wax imo is this brand called Spice. but for a small one cost like 40-50 imported (2,000 yen locally)

That is true that your hair is bound to get destroyed.. But its the rate at which it is getting destroyed which is important....

I've used Sumotech Wax.. comes in a small container. At first it looks like crap, but after a while it holds good and if you want you can restyle if you like. $40 though for small container and you buy it at Hennessey Salon in Oakridge/Richmond Center

Alright, so after trying out the Gatsby stuff, I find it miles above what I used before.

Unfortunately, the 2 that I picked up aren't doing exactly what I was hoping for.

Gatsby : Moving Rubber (green)
It's pretty good. I use about 15ml, It rubs in pretty good to give me good coverage. It's giving me the volume I was hoping for. I love that It's retouchable, like later in the day, I can just fluff it up some more and let it go wild.
Downside: It kind of tugs at my hair when I try to rub it in. It doesn't really hold my fluff/spiking that well, but I guess it wasn't really designed for that. It's also has a slightly oily feel to it and leaves a little residue on your hands.
This means I definitely had some come off in my helmet already.
Overall, it's a huge step in the right direction, but not quite there yet.


Gatsby: Technical Design Clay
Wow, it's super hard to get it out of the container, I'm literally scraping my fingers across it to get some of it to stick to my fingers. Because it's so sticky and viscous, you can't just rub it in your hair and be done with it. I think it's meant to be a detailer, kind of like rubbing it into the tip of your spikes to ensure their hold.
Unfortunately, that's way too much work for me to do.
Because I'm using so little, I don't really notice if there is any sort of residue that comes off from touching it.


Any more suggestions guys?

I use redken. About $25. It holds great and doesn't seem like its doing any major damage so far...

I am usually too lazy stay my hair in the mornings so I usually cut short so I don't need to comb it.

However, wanted to try a new style.

if you guys are looking for something to spike your hair with, you might as wel use gel... if you want hair products for messy looks, there are tonnes of stuff out there... it is all preference.. next time you go to yoru hair dresser, you should ask to try out some stuff.. i go to Jack on Cambie and they have a bunch of diff stuff from lsb redken, difi, american crew that you can try.

out of all the gatsby products, i find the the purple wax to be the best
i've tried most of the other wax/clay (red, black, pink, orange, grey) but the purple wax seems to be the smoothest to use. it doesn't make your hair feel oily and it is restylable, so you could fix up your hair halfway through the day.
i would recommend gatsby over the other brands out there :)

its cheap($6) and works great for me
but its a lil hard to wash off
