They sell them in 10's or something....about 30 cents each, I think. If you go up the stairs, you'll see a picture of my cousin with the 75lbs(!) Spring salmon that he caught about 15 years ago up in the Queen Charlotte's, and the 200lbs sturgeon he caught in the Fraser. At least I think those pictures are still there....it's the family business - we all worked there at some point in our lives. :lol

Jeezuz, Senna. Your family runs Nikka? Small world. I must send you PM. My father, a commercial fisherman most of his life, did business with Nikka all the time. Moored at Paramount and Celtic. I remember the first time we bought a Furuno. It was from Nikka.

Today was the slowest day yet. I'm sure it's a combination of the river getting lower (dropped a foot since yesterday at the place I'm fishing) and the huge commercial openings. At this point I won't be going out on Saturday or Sunday due to the 36 hour commercial opening that is currently underway. Come the weekend there will be nothing left to catch and a shitload of weekend warriors to deal with. I'll start going back again Monday.

The place I'm going to is no secret it's in Chilliwack. Took us an hour longer than usual to get our fish today tomorrow will be interesting.

This was for the 26th right?

The morning was terrible, high tide combined with the wind. It seemed like the salmon just didn't want to come in.

If you had waited till about 12 ish noon, the salmon came in ridiculous amounts. They were doing a show or something, probably called the salmon dancing show. It was nuts. I haven't seen anything like that since ever, salmon were jumping all over the place.

I wish i had a professional camera to had capture that moment.

And even when the opening closed at 8 pm tonight, the salmon were still filling in.

Berzerker 08-27-2010 09:36 AM

Well today was actually quite productive but we had to change our spot on the river to deal with the lowering water line and the change in current because of it. It's getting very snaggy out there though as more and more guys lose more and more gear. I wish I had a way to drag the channel I'm fishing on and pick up all the gear that's in there. 1 reason is there is a shitload of gear and 2nd reason is to clean it up for fishing lol

Berz out.

I spent about 8 hours on Fraser on Saturday.
Near Hope. Allot of people fishing. Unfortunately couldnt catch a single one.
Brutal.
Everybody else was on the same boat.
Looks like Commercial fishing earlier cleaned them out.
Hopefully itll be better next Saturday.
If they dont open up commercial this week, the Fraser should be loaded with them.

Looking forward till next Saturday.

Sorry to burst your bubble, more commercial openings this week.

And it's predicted that the salmon run may be bigger than 25 million, possibly 30 million.

If you aren't catching anything, then I'm stunned. The fish are jumping out of the water.

Use dynamite?

And why did you go all the way up to Hope when you could have caught delicious Fraser salmon?

Berzerker 08-29-2010 06:15 PM

Umm Faser goes up to hope. That's where I'm catching them up from pegleg a bit at Aggasiz.

Gonna go tomorrow hopefully we still have good luck.

Berz out.

Not likely. Fish are strange creatures. Especially salmon. It's all about the temperature of the water, tide, current, etc.

It wouldn't have been good the first few days after they had the nets out. I went there this morning and it was looking good again, lots of hits, and lots of people getting their limit again. However, they did look smaller in size than what I had caught the previous week.

Yeah.. Once commercial starts. It takes a few days for the river to get better.

Im heading there Saturday and Sunday.
Probably wont be good timing as commercial will most likely open in the next few days as well.

I just received a picture from a friend who was at the Peg Leg on Monday. He caught a 20lber.. what a beauty.

89blkcivic,
This has nothing to do with temperature of the water, tide, current.....

its definitely the commercial fisherman's fault when u have 50 boats with gill nets going ACROSS the river, eg the river banks going along river road south of steveston.

J____ 08-31-2010 12:06 PM

my friend went fishing the other day and caught his limit in 15 mins haha.

The nets are to be a certain size and depth. By this, I mean the mesh. Don't blame the commercial fisheries. Be thankful sports fishing is even allowed.

Nuff said.

god bless

Why should we be thankful sport fishing is allowed?

otherwise, you would have to buy sockeye from the commercial guys or at your market instead of fishing for it.

Vansterdam 09-01-2010 02:14 PM
