canon 60d, new white lenses

so i was reading up on canonrumors (dunno the accuracy of this guy)
but he just posted that canon announced the 60d, 70-300 f4-5.6L IS, a bunch of telephoto lenses being updated (300, 400, 500 and 600) and an EF 8-15 F4L FISHEYE

60d is in fact gonna come up soon, but is sad/stupid that canon ditched the magnesium body and went for a flip screen instead.. the nikon d7000 is gonna attract more people looking for a semi-pro non-full frame camera fo sho.

i think the 7D can fulfill that role already. the 60D is more meant for the prosumer range...

No, the 7D is prosumer, the 60D is consumer, me thinks.

I don't like how the 60D has become a near entry model camera. They should have maintained the magnesium body, as well as improved on what the 20D,30D,40D,50D has built. Now its just another camera that in the same lineup as the entry model cameras.

My 40D > 60D ...I still like to think that.

Yeah, while I do see the merits of an articulated screen, one little mistake - *SNAP* - off to Canon Canada's repair facility!

This is like Christmas! Can't wait till they all come out! Anyone wana buy a kidney?

60D seems like a downgrade from a 7D so its a consumer camera. A bit disappointing. The new lenses sound like alot of fun tho!

I can see buying a 60D as a second body, but the regression to SD cards sucks.

Another camera that is interesting is the new Sony SLT-A55 - built in GPS & 10fps!! The dealbreaker for me is the lack of an optical viewfinder though.

that 70-300 is not really impressive. i guess white lenses are totally marketing now.

sony is looking really really really attractive lately.

they got it wrong i say. people who are considering 70-300 are looking into 70-200 offering. One of the biggest debate since this range has started is the F2.8 vs. F4. In my opinion, they should have made a 70-300 F2.8 - 4 L IS. and discontinue the non IS models.

i disagree. The original 70-300 is quite popular with regular consumers. The IS makes it quite a good option compared to the 70-200 F4 Non IS which is around the same price. compare that to the 70-200 F4 IS which is twice the price.

my only gripe is that retail price of the new 70-300 seems to be placed at $1500 (on some rumour sites), which is ridiculous. Unless the new lens is much sharper, and definitely has internal focusing, there's no way i'm paying twice the price for it.

Nope, a lens like that would be too big & heavy.

sure it would be heavier then current one. However, i think the weight comes from constant aperture. A variable apenture lense only need to to have maximum light on the wide end. A great example is the Sigma 17-70 F2.8 - 4 OS USM, which is relatively light compare to Canon's equivalent

The price point of it around 1500 also pushed it WAY beyond what the old 70-300, entirely different market. Shoppers who consider this L lens would only be shopping against the 70-200 offerings and perhaps 3rd party alternatives.

the Canon 300mm F4 is bigger than the 70-200 F2.8..... even if it is lighter...

The weight comes from the glass (and metal!) needed for a large maximum aperture, and the longer focal length. Also, a 70-300 F2.8-f4 needs to make more compromises due to the longer focal length, so it will be more difficult to make as sharp as a 70-200 lens.

No, it's longer, but narrower.

i would of wished canon to launch a new succesor to the 5d first.. they already got a ton of entry-mid range cameras.. T1i, T2i, 50d (kinda), and now the 60d?!?!

i rather save a few bucks and get the t2i!

seems like the 60D truly is a 'Super Rebel' now instead of semi-prosumer.

I do like the articulating screen though and i think that the replacement for the joystick is a neat idea. the grip seems similar to the 7D (the thumb notch).

However, i do feel that they did go a bit backward in the xxD line with the plastic body and the use of SD cards. losing the microadjust must suck for some people though.

It's positioned well though in the Canon line up. it really is the in-between of the xxxD bodies and the xD's now.

definitely didn't like how they changed it to plastic from magnesium. makes me want to keep my 40d even though i rarely use it anymore just for the sake that it's still gonna feel more sturdily built.

i just wish canon would develop more primes too, like an updated 35mm

Canon has more fast primes than any other company. What fast prime do you need?

In a related note, Cosina has announced a 25mm f0.95 for the micro 4/3 mount!!! OMFG

well i was just looking at the 35mm, and the currently there is just the 1.4 and the f2. i looked at the f2 just for kicks and it has been ages since it was updated. looking from a price point of view, people who have xsi or t1i/t2i who isn't ready to plunk down 1500 for a 35 1.4 would be looking at just either canon's 35mm f2, or sigma's 30mm f/1.4

yeah i saw that! there was another company who released a 50mm f/0.95 for m4/3rds sometime last year, noktor http://noktor.com/.
