| speaker/wire/Hu problem?
To make it short, i noticed my left front speaker was not working... (everything is stock at this point, 07 civic lx basic sound). i swapped the R and L speakers and it is not the actualy speaker... i looked at the harness and the wiring and it all seems fine.. i DONT have a volt meter to see if there is a current running to the speaker (there obviously isnt if the speaker isnt working), but i don't know if somewhere along the line from the speaker to the HU if something got cut, or if it is actually my HU that isnt producing power to the L front side. is it possible that the head unit could be the cause? I checked all fuses too.
Note. i had that side fender/door repaired and that could be a reason why, but al the other power functions ie. mirror door window etc, work,.. arent they all in the same bundle anyways/?

Was the door just repaired? Or replaced? Did the person forget to plug the speaker harness in near the door jam? Some cars wiring in the door goes to a harness before entering the car, maybe here is where your problem is... First thing I would do is trace the wire from speaker to deck. Next thing would be to take it to Soundsgood |

well the door was repaired about a year ago.. it was soon after i noticed the speaker not working. i assumed it was a busted speaker until now.
the speakers were plugged in... like i said, i swapped the spekers from left to right and vice versa just to see if it was.. nothing..
then, i took an aftermarket head unit and hooked that up.. same thing.. ALL speakers work except the front left.
after that, i took the panels of the door, and the underdash/trim and looked inside the door and under the glove box.. i traced both the pos and neg wires from the speaker harness all the way to the deck... everything seems good.. and no cuts or unravelling of the wires to show any indication of it being tampered with...
i even saw that the 2 big harnesses that plug into the foor jam right at the grommet were all plugged in.. i couldnt really get into that area to untape it and really look but there wasnt anythign lose or unplugged ends... i may have to take the door off to get my hands in there better... finally.. i might just have to bring it in somewhere.. OR i could just rewire another set of speaker wires

bring it back to the body shop. they can re-inspect and bill the insurance (if it was claimed through insurance)
you have up to 2 years i believe since the repairs were finished to make a claim against the original claim.

I have come across this problem recently in an older Civic (2003). I measured the resistance in the speaker line from the deck to the speaker and noticed that it was pretty high. I spent about 10 minutes trying to figure out why/where the problem could be until I just ran a brand new speaker wire from the deck to the speaker. It saved the customer time and money and solved the problem. Sometimes its best to replace the line instead of chasing ghosts.
I charged him about $40.

did you rerun the wire through the oem grommet? i find there is little to no room from the jam of the fender where there are a couple of harnesses.. the actual loom has room but the grommet that goes into the fender is stretch out... i was debating whether to drill another hole and run it that way.. but i dont really want to to that if i don't have to. your thoughts, mike?
also could it be as stupid as the pos/neg being mixed up on the original wires?

^that would cause no sound, but you could just swap the posi/negi connections on the speaker really quick to test it.

If polarity is reversed then the speaker would still work. First thing I would have asked was about body damage. Factory wiring rarely ever fails... The issue is most likely where the repair was done, and it's most likely corrosion that has caused the wiring to fail.
Run a new wire like Mike mentioned... it's not easy but it should fix your problem.

^ really? If I recall right, the last few times I've swapped speakers no sound would be emitted if the polarity was revered :s Posted via RS Mobile |

at any one given point in time, the speaker cone would be moving out when it should be moving in and vice versa.

There are ways to test the wires before and after the molex plug in the kick panel. If the wire through the grommet is fine I would just interupt it at the kick. If its sketchy through the grommet then I can take the grommet apart and see if that is where the problem is. Worse comes to worse, I can just drill out a bit of the molex and run a wire uninterupted from deck to speakers.
We have ways to fix that!
