Clutch job - recommendations? (IS300)

Clutch finally wore out and I need it done. Any shop recommendations and good experiences? I was quoted by my mechanic at $1900-$2000 for parts, labor and tax which sounds pretty damn expensive... I was hoping for something in the $1500 range.

EDIT: Lexus dealerships called back and quoted $3,000 including flywheel replacement. Damn, son. A Toyota dealership gave me roughly $1900 taxes incl, slightly cheaper than the mechanic.

i vouch for gearheads.

they did a clutch job on my evo. they charge very reasonable amount on labour while i bring in parts and supplies. the turnover is good too.

Depends on what clutch u are going for. I just got my clutch done on my IS300 for ~$1200 with a ACT Heavy duty street kit. That includes machining the flywheel, a new crank seal, and 3 bottles of redline tranny oil. And an engine oil change too. lolz.

ACT part number is TS5-HDSS, should help you find it easier. If you decide to get this. OEM replacement is an Exedy kit, which is about $100 cheaper than this one.

Thats the flywheel before machining.

PM me for more info! Ill help a fellow 5spd IS300 owner. =)

^ Thanks for detailed response. I've thought about the ACT clutch before but I wanted as close to OEM feel as possible. Actually turns out the clutch I was replacing was pretty bad due to a reason so ridiculous I don't even want to post why. I ended up at Gearheads and they were great, and would recommend them to anyone else looking for clutch work. I was charged less than many comparable mechanics for work of high quality.

Yes, 5spd IS300's are pretty rare, good to know there are a few around here.

Cheers!
