build me a CHEAP CHEAP Computer.

This is specifically to run mame and so i can run it on my new astro city.

It will most likely be running xp. I have a case and a psu. (antec p120) It also does not need a video card.

Halp.

sweet no need for a case then. Where should I throw the power supply then? Just leave it on the bottom of the cabinet?

I would still use a case because you will still need a the power and reset buttons.

Just screw the ps to the board as well if you have some sorta bracket. Just to keep it from sliding around. You can also leave it on the bottom. Makes no difference really.

For the power switches you wouldn't want to use the ones on the case anyways. It would probably be in an awkward place. Just run a wire from the motherboard to a push to contact switch on the outside of your case. Same with the reset.

Short the power pins on the mobo

impactX 09-07-2010 05:04 PM

If you want it the real ghetto way, just turn on the computer by shorting the power pins with a screw driver.

Just buy someones older used computer off craigslist, rip it apart, and mount the pieces any which way you please inside.

Yeah that works too.. essentially if you rip apart the front panel you'll have the same wire inside the computer case. Just solder an extension to it and pull it to wherever you want the power switch in the cabinet.
