wind mobile

hey, im a regular fido user and ive been wondering has anyone tried this carrier?
what are your thoughts on it based on plans, reception, overall?
thanks.

You're limited to crappy phones that supports AWS 1700mhz/2100mhz.
But if you don't care then it's cheap, but I heard reception out in Surrey and UBC varies and is unstable.

crappy phones? get a samsung vibrant and you have the best smartphone on wind. Receptions good. i've switched over from fido for 3 months and great reception in most of vancouver. havent had a dropped call yet. never been to ubc, but reception in surrey is pretty good too.

Vulcan300 09-05-2010 06:16 PM

ubc just had a new tower turned on, i read its really good unless you are deep inside the brick buildings

I've been using Wind since Aug and uhhhhh, it's ok, not really happy with them. I keep getting dropped calls and no reception in underground areas when I used to have reception when I was with Fido.

Been with Wind for 3 months..

Ive never had any problems with reception or dropped calls..

im paying $32.50/per month
Always Chat plan

im happy with this so far...

distanc3 09-08-2010 07:27 AM

no reception in some buildings where as fido/rogers will have full bars which sucks soooo bad. =(

muteki 09-08-2010 11:26 AM

was there yesterday. more than half of the people that came in complained that they barely get reception, dropped calls, can't access account online due to the site dying all the time. it's pretty sad..

Anyone noticed Wind's 3g data is so slow? When I try to watch Youtube videos, it's always buffering?

+1 used wind since they launched, 3g is kanna slow, but other than canada line, had no problems with the so far

SkinnyPupp 09-08-2010 08:26 PM

My brother just tested his Wind 3G speed, and it got 3 mbps. That's quite reasonable, IMO. I know a lot of people on Rogers report under 1 mbps.

windchaser 09-08-2010 08:32 PM

u cant beat their 50 dollars unlimited everything plan...

J____ 09-12-2010 06:51 AM

after being back on Tmobile, i realized how much cheaper canadian telecom has gotten thanks to wind. It's cheaper than the plans in the states! only difference is no roaming and free long distance domestic calls.

Is there any way to solve this? For every single MV I tried to watch on youtube, I'll be able to see the 1st min., then it'll buffer, lag and get all choppy.

Opening web pages seem very fast though.

StylinRed 09-12-2010 07:14 PM

im always out in coquitlam/ridge do you guys know if they've got their tower out there yet? or is it still considered 'away'?

muteki 09-13-2010 05:48 PM

^ unstable, but it works in SOME areas.
Have fun trying to deal with their customer service reps. Their excuse for everything is "because we're new", just take a look at their "forums"

They are new though...

muteki 09-13-2010 09:23 PM

^ doesn't justify a lot of their problems. instead of trying to help people, you're practically told to say that to customers. =]

distanc3 09-14-2010 09:36 AM

well aside from the reception problem there's a new student offer worth looking into :)
