tire pop

holyshit, the things you can find lying on the roads are ridiculous and unsafe for driving. my mom was driving the altima today and as she was switching lanes, something got into her tire and popped it. i couldn't believe it when i arrived to help her change to her spare wheel.. check out what was in it..

it's not even a sharp object..

Wow. That bolts looks like the ones used in Hondas for the alternator (which coincidentally tend to fall out quite often on older ones).

wow, that T-Bolt literally went 1/4 in! What Satek said, most likely from a construction project.

daaaang...
stuff likes this scares the crap out of me cause i'm on 2 wheels.
If it was able to puncture the tire like that, odds are, it was sitting upwards while lodged on something strong enough for the car to use it's weight against it to puncture the tire.

If I slammed into that with my 200lb scooter, I would be separated from my scoot, and sent flying into the air.

...
*shudder*

Hate to frighten you even more ,but it is more likely it was kicked up by the front tire (or another car) and lodged in the rear. Can you imagine if that had fallen off a truck you were following.

Less likely to happen, scoots or any 2 wheeler won't have tread deep enough like that. It was the tread of the tire that ultimately drove the bolt in, it had no where else to go but between the tread, the thinest part of the contact patch. If it was a slick, you could probably roll over it unscathed.

But then again, I couldn't believe that I actually caught a nail on my bike before. I already have 2 less wheels and less contact area... what are the chances?

it happened sometime last year, i was heading to richmond and i took knight bridge, after the bridgeport exit and i was on the left lane. heading to alderbridge exit. and i saw two rolls on the ground. one on the left lane and another one on the right lane but a little further up. so i had to change lanes and back again. once i passed both rolls i look in my rear and side mirrors to see a pickup pulled over to the right and some dude trying to remove the carpets.
